In order to properly clean your aquarium you should follow
the next step by step manual.
ā¢
You should fill half a
bucket with dirty fish tank water. Then fill the rest with clean tap water.
Then you should mix them together, the new and the dirty water so there will be
no injure to the fish by drastically changing the water.
ā¢
Place your fish in the
bucket.
ā¢
Unplug the aquarium and the
aquarium equipment from the electricity.
ā¢
Drain the tank completely.
ā¢
Take two cupful of dirty
gravel and put it aside. Since cleaning gravel with tap water will destroy most
of the waste eating bacteria, it is necessary to save some gravel with bacteria
for later on.
ā¢
Take the rest of the gravel
and put it into two buckets.
ā¢
Place a garden hose into
one bucket and turn the faucet on full blast. Frequently rinse and stir the
gravel until the water in the bucket gets clean.
ā¢
Repeat the process with the
second bucket.
ā¢
Clean the aquarium tank
with hot tap water without using any soap or cleaning materials. Clean the
internal parts of the aquarium and then wipe the insides with a paper towel.
ā¢
Put all the gravel back
inside the tank in addition with the rest of the dirty gravel.
ā¢
Refill the tank with clean
cold tap water. Make sure you add a de-chlorinating agent to the tap water.
ā¢
Plug in all the electrical
parts.
ā¢ Return all the fish to the tank.
The plain gravel is not the recommended substrate unless mixed with some sort of nutrient rich additive or soil.
