    Hi Noggin,

Thank you so much for taking the time to try to help me! The manual doesn't tell how to replace the battery. Do you have any idea how I could find a service facility to do the work? I've ordered a replacement battery on ebay.

    Thank you,

You can open the Gmini 220 and replace the battery. First undo the 8 small screws. Then you can unsnap the top and bottom. Two clips are at each side of the top and bottom. They're easy to break. Don't try to rip off the top metal, you need to remove the plastic that the metal is glued to. After this you can carefully remove mic from its place and then remove the white plastic around the player. To unplug the HD, gently pry it away. Then unsolder the battery. You can find new batteries on eBay and elsewhere. You can see pics at

Here is the link to the user manual for your player; This link gives the FAQ's for your model; and says this; "What kind of batteries does my Gmini220 use and how can I replace them? The Archos Jukebox Multimedia uses a factory installed Lithium Ion battery. If the duration of a full charge seems very low, please contact customer service at the following address for US ([email protected]) or the following address for Europe ([email protected]). Please Note: Do not attempt to change the batteries, this could cause damage to your Jukebox and void your warranty." Hope this helps :)

If you can get the machine open, take a picture or two and then post them or try to get one of us on a live chat, we may be able to talk you through changing it - i couldn't get any details on the inside of the machine, but it should be clear from a photo what to do.

If you can't get hold of me then try Bogdan if he's online - he would be able to help too.

service centres i can definitely help with, but will need to know your general location if you can.

ebay have ads for replacements.

remove the back cover by taking out the 4 screws , fold out the hard drive unit and you will see the battery under it.

unsolder the two wires - positive and negative- ( red and black )
solder on the new battery wires in the correct place and re assemble unit .

Gmini hard disk reading problems

My Gmini XS202s did this twice both time cause the battery went flat while moving files across (I should always charge device while connecting to PC)

First time I reformatted device as FAT32 using fdisk (Windows formatting tool should do same)

Then downloaded latest AOS and copied to root directory. [get AOS from]

second time I ran mkdosfs /media/disk (disk was mount point for gmini). This seemed to fix the device and I lost about 20 files. but better than reformat.

Archos Gmini220 Power Supply?

The charger which came with my Gmini 220 is 5V DC, 1.6A. It measures about 5.18V. The +5V is applied to the normally unused pin on the USB connector. The charger's plug is built so you and plug the charger into the Gmini and then plug the USB cable into the charger.

Gmini 402 camcorder freeze/format

If you have problems with the file system on your Gmini you can try to fix it using the DOS utility, check disk (chkdsk). Do the following; ? Make sure external AC adapter is powering the Gmini. ? Quit all running applications. ? Properly connect the Gmini to your computer ? Wait patiently (up to 5 minutes) for Windows XP to show the local drive as mounted. ? Open a DOS window. Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. ? At the prompt, type chkdsk e: /f. Use e: or f: or whatever drive letter is representing your Gmini. The /f argument tells the program to automatically fix errors. ? Be patient, this may take a while. ? When it is finished, exit the DOS Window and properly disconnect the Gmini from your computer. Try using the device now and see if makes any difference. This method should help to fix any disc errors that have occurred within the FAT and help your PC recognise it again. If you have more problems, try formatting it using a DOS prompt. You MUST make sure NOTHING is trying to access the disc before you can format it - this includes windows explorer.

Headphone jack on archos gmini 220

I find the ground contact, the first one from the outside, tends to bend. Just bend it back a bit with a small screwdriver (eg. for eyeglasses) or manicure scissors.
