A general rule of thumb is that a barre should be placed at a level between the users hips and waist. The standard height is said to be 3.5 feet; however if you are teaching younger children, you will need to adjust the height to suit them.

Dancers use ballet bars to help improve their abilities and to use for warming up. Bar exercises help to improve the dancers skill and technique, as well as alignment, balance and flexibility.
Ballet bars should be 42 inches. Some are available as 42 inches than can be
adjusted to 39 inches.
