Cathy, there is a way to adjust belt tension on some models whether it is by the cable or a slotted bracket where the idler wheel is mounted, depends on make and model. If you have your manual check in it for belt adjustment. Could be stretched belt, stretched cable, worn/oil on pulley, seized tensioner, stretched/broken spring on tensioner,etc.

I have a stanley 54zs. Im replacing the engine to hydro belt and not sure the best route to take with out completely dismantling the whole back end. Theres got to be an easier way.

Usually it is easiest to pull the bolt, washers, and spacer that hols on the idler pulley. The only items are belt guides if so equipped.

There is no 'adjustment ' to be made other than routing the belt correctly. The tension on the belt is made by the idler pulley which is spring loaded. If you can provide the model number of the mower, I will search for a belt routing and parts daigram.

You can try putting a little more tension on the drive belt. It is probably stretched out a bit and the drive engagement cant cancel all the slack out. So, the belt slips.

Pull out your owners manual and look up instructions for tightening the drive belt. If you dont have a manual go to the Husqvarna website and get a PDF copy.

Stanley Mowers were made by Murray. Most Lawn mower repair / parts stores have replacement parts for these mowers.

Even if you do not have a model number you can probably use this link (left side of page) to find your part.

If it is just an engine part that you need mose of these had Briggs and Stratton engines onthem and the engine model number and type code are on the air shroud just above the spark plug for engines 4 HP or less.

FINAL SOLUTION TO FIX THE BELT FROM COMING OFF LT1045 WHILE MOWING!

I also had this issue with my LT1045 belt. However, I just figured out how to finally fix / re-engineer my LT1045 Cub Cadet from having issues with the belt coming off of the deck while mowing.

Taking it back into a shop for repairs will not work, the belt will just come off again the first time you mow. I am making a YouTube Video to help others like me with this mower issue and will post a link here soon showing how to fix this design flaw.

It took me about an hour to fix but I've got it working now with no problems, minimum vibrations and belt is running cool now! I've gone for 2 months with no problems now. Check back soon for the link!! I expect I will have the video tutorial finished within a week!!

check that belt is on the drive train pulleys. belt maybe stretched. look for adjuster to tighten slack out of belt tighten in small increments. hope this helps
