Blank screen with convergence lines

The screen has blue ,green and red lines coming from the top right corner, where they are tight together and they swoop down across the screen and separate and end at the top left corner where they are about 2 to 3 inches apart with red on top green in middle and blue at the bottom. The center majority of the screen is a bluish grey colour and the bottom has a bow from corner to corner rising in the middle to about 9" it is black under the bow. theconvergence chips were replaced a few months ago and the set worked until now, I just replaced the stk 392-110 chips with a pair of 150's and had NO change these were good factory chips(sony)-is there any other ideas on what is effecting the set there is no picture and no menues will show on the screen Help Please.

SOURCE: no picture have sound

sounds like your IC's took a dive again. Did you change them or a shop? You have to also make sure that when you change the IC's that you put plenty of heat sink compound on the back of the IC's and do not use the cheapy IC's that you can get for 20 bucks or less as I have found they do not last. This convergence board should be available as a complete board. Good Luck

Bowed flickering green screen, black on bottom

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

No blue auto convergence when performed by menu buttons

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded over.
