My Casio will not open at all. the lens does not open and it won't extend either. It makes the noise I programmed it to make when I turn it on.. but that's it! My Mother has the same exact camera.. we tried switching batteries to see if that was the problem. But it is not.
My toddler may have done something with it.. but I'm not sure what!
Any potential answers out there?
my daughter dropped the camera on the lens and now the lens is stuck and makes noise as if it's going to open but won't now I cannot take a picture nor can i view any pictures, it just won't turn on. Any suggestions?

Does the camera power down after it tries to open the lens? If the camera was dropped with the lens extended, then chances are that the lens is bent which would prevent the lens from opening.
Was something spilled on it? This might be your problem too. Try sliding in a small piece of paper around the lens and see if you can free it up and get it to come out. If it does, wipe down the outside of the lens with a damp cloth (but not the optical glass!) and use a dry cloth to remove any moisture before retracting the lens.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

By the clicking noise, you may be experiencing what's called a "lens error". Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:
I had the same problem and I left it on the charger over night and in the morning I turned it on and the lens extended smoothly with no noise and is now focusing
Hello, I'm Mark Faith from the states. I purchased the CASIO EX-Z700 series. However, I accidentally dropped the camera when the camera was on and the lens was extended. It makes a grating sound, and the monitor screen said "Lens error".
Now, the camera is turned off with its lens extended. When I see the lens from the top, the lens position is more concentrated to the right, and the gaps between each lens is bigger on the left hand side of the lens.
I sincerely hope this would help you to analyze the lens situation. I'll be patiently waiting for a list of solutions. Thanks.
Try plugging the PC interface cord into the external connector. No need to hook it up to your computer, just plug it in and out a few times. Then try to power up the camera.
Good luck.

It's the focus lens gears. The often times get knocked out of alignment by an impact, or debris gets in there. This can be fixed, but Casio won't help. Hint...google my username. ;)
Is it an actual beep, or is it a beeping noise coming from the lens? Does the lens extend? I ask this because this is the noise the lens focus gears make when they are knocked out of alignment, or debris gets in them and jams them.
get the new ex-600s.. my 500s's lens wont come back in either.. i got the 2 year ultra warantee this time cause they're junk cameras but it's the best compact for about a year till it breaks
