If you have an ESR meter check C509 on the D board or simply unsolder it and replace it - remember it is polorized so make sure you put the new one in the same direction that the old one comes out.. Then let me know...
If you're not comfortable with that, this is a common problem that causes dark screen and you can probably have a tech come to the home with his trusty ESR meter and check a few caps in that circuit..

Light gradually getting darker and harder to make out

My understanding is that an LCD TV has a fluorescent tube for a backlight, an LED TV is LCD with an LED array for the backlight. Depending on what type TV, it's possible a technician could replace the fluorescent tube or whatever and get it working again. If it's a CRT TV, you might need a new PS or CRT.

The picture seems to be getting darker. Its not as bright and sharp as it used to be. Its about 9 years old but has not been used very much. Might it need a new bulb or something? 57HX81 Proj TV Color...

simple: remove back cover and locate the three large black lens you will see top and dead center, clean them with either a lens cloth or a paper towel with glass cleaner----they are the light source for your picture and should be cleaned once a year---as they get dusty the picture gets darker and duller looking.\\

Tv is about 4 years old. Suddenly developed two

Your plasma screen is made up of 1080 verticle lines and now a few of these lines are not working. This is the screen itself and needs replacing.

My 61" hitachi rear proj has a very dark picture.

It sounds that lamp in TV is weak and not throwing enough light to bright the screen for good image.
How old is this TV and did you replaced its Lamp recently?
If lamp has not been replaced yet or in last 2-3 years, replace it.

PANASONIC 36" TAU --- NEED HELP

Sounds terminal. Companies build things with "planned obsolescence" in mind. In other words. You buy a TV today, and the warranty says it's good for 4 years. 4 years and 3 months later, it dies.

I hope someone else can help you.
Good Luck!

Black screen 53in Hitachi 53UDX10B

At seven years old, thats a toss up, because most likely you will be nickle and diming the set from here on in. In my opinion, get a new set. Good Luck
