Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TR416 Camcorder

1 Answer

Cant record I have a really really really old Sony video Hi8 Handycam and when I put a tape in thats already been recorded, it won't play and when i switch to CAMERA mode it turns off and i have to unplug and replug it in to get anything to work. Also on the screen in CAMERA mode a symbol with a hand ( looks like this ((handprint)) ) on it shows up. Is this fixable or should we buy a new camera...the camera is about 15 years old so i don't think they make this brand anymore. Please help us.

Hello, your camcorder is from 1998 or 1999. Yes it is fixable. Please ask for the price estimate from the technician with best references. If you need more info please advice.

Play back pre recorded HI8 tapes on my TRV130?

The Sony DCR-TRV130 is a D8 digital camcorder which is not compatible with Hi8 camcorders.
You need to have an Hi8 camcorder or DCR-TRV103 or similar camcorders that backward compatible with Hi8 camcorders.

New DCR-TRV260 won't play my old tapes

I have the same problem. I just bought a sony handyman and tried to play my old tapes and nothing, not even sound. But I just recorded something using an old tape and it records and I can play that back. I'm thinking maybe over time, somehow all the data on there got erased. Which is really a bummer.

Hi8 Tape Will Eject but will not forward/record/rewind,

a problem with an electro mechanical mode-select switch there could be a timing problem arised by mechanical problems on contacts inside (an old video recorder problem between the seventies and nineties ) all equipments where tapes or cassettes are used.
A service manual for timing should be neccesary

Problems with playing cassettes recorded on a hi8 camera

DCR TRV140E is a Digital8 camera
CCD TRV87E is a Hi8 camera,
(Hi8 is an analog format)
the tapes are the same size, wont help, the recording systems are not compatible
send them to a lab service ?maybe if there are only a few
or ebay a Hi8 camera and transcode them yourself

its not a solution, at least it clarifies the problem

Hi8 playback problem

your guides have come loose , probably - the digital sound will be next to go because the bottom edge of your tapes are being folded - open the cassette tape lid by pressing the small pin near one hinge and gently lifting the door - if there are any creases ? get the guides aligned ! to protect your library ; ( if there are no creases , try a sony d8 cleaning tape - once ! before getting a repair quote ) ;
