The blue tube(part n. AWI 1393) developed a perforation and it was replaced. After the unit was turned ON the problem occurred again instantly with the newly replaced tube. I?m afraid of going for a 2nd replacement and have the same problem again. Can anyone give me a clue on what is going on?

It?s a true perforation so symmetrical, that seems to have been made with a drill, laser beam or a high speed steel bullet. The implosion issue did not occur because of the glass thickness. I do have pics, but the blog has no upload option. It?s a true perforation so symmetrical, that seems to have been made with a drill, laser beam or a high speed steel bullet.

what do you mean by "perforated"? A line horizontal or a vertical line burned into the CRT? If so then fix that issue first such as a possible bad deflection yoke on the blue CRT since it seems to be the only CRT with a burm in it.what do you mean by "perforated"? This is blue CRT problem in tv as it is rear projection tv that has three CRTs red-green-blue inside to project color picture on front screen. Blue CRT (tube) will be replaced to fix the issue and it is job of Pro because lots of adjustments are required after replacement of tube. Local tv repair shop will help you for that. Thanks
if blue picture tube is blooming with retrace lines? it's because it developed internal short. you might try to turn down screen on blue picture tube. always mark with fingernail polish so you can return to starting position. J.D.W.
I think its Sony rear projection TV that has 3 picture tubes. If that's true then Blue Tube seems bad and requires to be replaced. Let me know exact model of TV to find out blue tube price info.
The blue tube if fine
you need to replace two convergance
chips or have a shop do it.99.9% shure
the chips are cheap around 20.00-30.00
etch and even less for the generics 10.00-16.00 ,so dont let the shop charge you
to much for the dirt cheap parts.
The blue picture tube has gone bad. Sadly they are no longer availible for that unit. But the blue tube assembly can be sent back to a company called Video Display. They rebuild the tube for a very reasonable price. The hitch is that it takes a professional tv tech to reinstall and align the rebuilt tube. Most respectable shops will do this work but the repair is spendy. Usually around $450 to $500 or more.
The CRT fluid in the blue and green tube are most likely clouded. The set is still good. You just need to replace the fluid. Check with the site www.TvRepairkits.com - they are working on developing a fluid kit that includes a photo instuction quide.
You have a bad blue picture tube. If you replace it the red and green will be weak and probably go sooner than you think. Everytime I had to replace a tube in a sony projo tv i had to replace all 3 picture tubes at the same time. It's very expensive if you don't have any type of warranty coverage.
