Direct tv works but remote doesn't

I have a brand new Toshiba LCD and hooked up my direct tv to it with the yellow, red and white cable. The direct tv works but the remote won't do anything. In order to change the channels or do anything you have to press the buttons on the face of the direct tv receiver. It was working fine last week with my other tv.

Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check it by pressing all the keys. You can detect the presence of infra-red emission from the remote control, using a cell-phone camera. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, please visit this site. One among the posts has details about it. In some cases, the remote control might need to clean.

SOURCE: channel selection

What you need to do is take the remote, go into the menu, find channel scan and do a channel scan to find all the available stations available on this system. Make sure the TV set is in the cable mode and not antenna mode or you wont get any stations above channel 13.

We have a new Philips 32" LCD TV, 3500 series/32PFL3505D. We are having problems as we try to connect it to our existing Direct TV receiver. Do we need to call for Direct TV assistance, or can you...

Looks fairly straightforward.

Depending on the output of your DirectTV receiver, you are either going to use an HDMI cable.tomcattech17_0.jpg

A component cable: (Red\Green\Blue for video... White\Red for audio)
tomcattech17_1.jpg

Or a composite cable: (Yellow for video.. White\Red for audio)
tomcattech17_2.jpg

Hook one side of the cables to the Direct TV receiver and the other into the correct inputs on the back of the TV.

you have to change the input on the tv to AV. there should be an input button on the remote, but if your remote doesnt work you might not be able to change the input. you can try to use the channel up and down on the tv and once you get to the end of the numbers, some tvs will change inputs before restarting the number list. make sure you hook the yellow cable to the yellow plugs on the dvd and the tv and either of the red or white ones to the white one on the tv. red and white are left and right audio and the yellow one is the video

Have no sound from VCR, cable hooked up properly, picture is great. TV is brand new.

Connect RCA cables yellow, white and red from VCR to TV. White and red are sound. Select TV input where VCR cables are connected using TV remote. Try different tapes. Turn up volume on TV.

Can't hook vcr to tv

on the back of your VCR there will be a yellow colored port - most likely labeled "OUT" as well as possibly a white/red pair of ports.
The yellow is for a VIDEO hookup, the white and red are for AUDIO hookups.
These ports use what is called an RCA type connection.
Radio Shack, or just about any department store should be able to sell you an inexpensive set of RCA cables.

now on the back of the TV (possibly on the side) you will also have the yellow, white and red ports.

Hook one end of the RCA cable to the colored ports on the VCR, the other end of the cable to the colored ports on the TV.

last thing - the TV most likely has multiple inputs. there is probably a input button on the TVs remote, you need to press that button to cycle through the inputs until you get to the one the VCR is hooked up to.
its easiest to put a tape in the VCR and press play - when you get to the right input, you will see your tape...

good luck

How do I hook up the DVD player to the TV?

Hi, basically you need to put them into their respective slots in the back of the tv. I know this can be frustrating because the slots are all faced downwards, tucked behind this piece. Look at this image, which should be what you are seeing if you're using a Toshiba 26'' 26AV502U, a model similar to yours.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat13506&type=page&h=387&skuId=9034733&productId=1218010846690&&viewtype=backView&count=0
Look at the four plugs with labeled "Video 1 In." "L Audio" is your white plug, "R" is your red plug(R actually stands for Right [Audio Input]), and Video is your yellow plug. It would be wise to remember this for every Audio/Video cable accepting unit. It makes sense you are putting the cables IN to the tv, hence "Video 1 In."
Now, to tell the tv to read the video input, find and hit the "Input" button on the remote, and it should be one of those options..(there are only a couple to choose from).
Hope these directions worked for you, and enlightened you!

DVD VHS recorder

It sounds like your cables are connceted ok, but what you neede to do is to be able the switch from one video mode to the other so lets go through the cable and vrc conncetions again just to make sure. From your cable set top box connect your component video (RGB) video out to your TV (RGB) video in via the (RGB)cables. From your VCR connect your composite video (yellow) out to your TV composite video in withe the composite video (yellow) cable. From your VCR (Left & Right audio out)connect your left and right audio connections (White and Red) to the Audio in of the TV (Left and Right). Whith this setup you should be able to use the TV to switch between the two A/V inputs using the remote control.
