I had the same problem and pressed every button I could. I stumbled across the solution eventually.
Turn the unit off but not the ignition of the car. Make sure the time is displayed by pressing the clock button. Then press and hold the function (F) button for a few seconds and that takes you into the clock reset option (plus lots of other confusing shit).

Yes, I'm sure Alpine will sell you another face but there is still the option of repairing the broken face at a good repair shop. Of course getting a new face is the easiest (read most expensive) way to get you going again.
