Question about KitchenAid KCMS145J Microwave Oven

2 Answers

Kitchenaid ykcms135h intermittent problem.

Works fine 80% of the time. Rest of the time when I start it, after few sec (10 - 30 sec) display will start funny (scrambled characters) and some times I hear arching. At this point unable to stop the microwave using key pad and need to open the door to stop it. Only way to start it again is to unplug it and plug it again after few sec. I opened the microwave and didn't see any burned parts. Looks very clean inside. Please shed some light on this problem. Thanks, Mat.

I found the problem. It was the Magnetron antenna seal got burned because of arching. The Magnetron top clamps got loosen and this caused the arching. There is a screw hole for the Magnetron (Toshiba 2M248J(GS)) on the top and the botttom but no screws (they clamed the cornres, but no screws were in place). I am not sure why there are no screws although there are screw holes in the magnetron. The new o ne I bought also came without the screws.

Exactly! There is a wire mesh gasket sealing the mag where it goes into the waveguide mounting hole. If that seal is not tight, microwaves escape, causing bizarre electrical interference. Sorry I didn't see before the bogus answer above got posted - I've been tied up and away from the PC.

AFTER SETTING TIME COOK TO 1 MIN 60 SEC AND PUSHING START BUTTON 4O SECS MORE IS ADDED, I.E. TOTAL 2 MINS SHOW ON DISPLAY. CAN I RESET THE THE COMPUTER.

There are sixty seconds in a minute, so 1 min 60 sec is the same as 2 min. If you want 40 seconds less than 2 minutes then set it for 1 min 20 sec or for 80 sec.

Door open button won't work on KitchenAid microwave model YKCMS135H

Page 3 of the exploded view here shows the door open parts 24510L and 250201 (or 23551B if your full model number is YKCMS135HSS).

What look like part numbers seem to be reference numbers.

Microwave makes a thumping sound then no heat

sounds like the hi voltage diode or capacitor are intermittant, the thump is the transformer drawing current when the magnetron tube calls for hi voltage to operate, you will see the lights dim slightly every time it cycles the mag tube for heat

Microwave Shuts off...

It sounds like you may have a loose fuse holder or an intermittent part such as one of the thermostats, such as the one mounted on the magnetron.

One thing to try is to cook on the lowest power setting or defrost to see if it runs longer or fails more quickly.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

LG 1925 Microwave suddenly stopped cooking, other functions work fine!

What you said about the the clock leads me to suggest that you first unplug it for a few minutes then plug it back in. It may just need a good reset. If you don't have your owner's manual you can download one here: http://www.lge.com/support/manual.jsp The mention of odor concerns me. It may just be a bit of food or grease on the waveguide cover, which is a small sheet or panel on the wall or ceiling of the cooking cavity, but it may indicate the failure of a part in the high voltage section. You may have an intermittent door switch. You can see some of my other responses for info on how to get our important text file that helps you diagnose and repair door switches and gives important safety tips.
