Hi Ya'll :) I have a NEC VERSA 2760MT lap top running windows 98. after deleting a bunch of registry keys i had to run a regfix program to restore it, shortly after that it began displaying an error message "Drive Not Ready, Insert BOOT diskette in A: press any key when ready" I dont have a bootdisk, what do I need to do? is there somewhere i can download one? also, I stuck a windows 2000 disk in the cd rom and it began reading it, preparing to install windows 2000 please standby... after running thru the setup process it came back with this message: "No hard drive was detected , cannot continue with setup." does that mean my hardrive is bad? if it is can i even boot up using a boot disk ? if not, can i replace it with a harddrive i have in a dell or HP laptop...? i also have an external usb hardrive with no OS on it, if i load an OS onto it , can i connect it to my NEC laptop and boot from that ?? Thank you in advance i appreciate your help! Lenaiya
Thank you...
NOOOOO IS NOT DEAD UR FINE TRY THE FIRST STEP OF THIS WEBSITE AND U SHOULD NOT GET THAT PROBLEM EVER AGAIN PLEASE IT IT WORKS http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320553
It seems that the Boot sector of your Harddrive is corrupted. What you need to do is log on as Administrator in the Recovery Console and run bootcfg. For detailed instruction on how to do it, log onto support.micorosft.com
I would say, without looking into it, your hard drive is dead. Yes, you can replace the internal harddrive for another one and just install Windows 2000.
