Sony KP-43T70 green ghost problem

Hi, I have a Sony KP-43T70 it is 7 years old and I'm the original owner. My problem started around a year ago but it is getting worse, the picture looks fine some of the time but when there is white in the background the pictures look like they have a green ghost. I have cleaned the lenzes and wiped off all the dust on the mirror but it is getting worse. Have I done something wrong in the hook up? Thanks for all the help.

Hi, I have done that many times, the + also shows the green. I even opened the back, wiped off all 3 lenses and the projection mirror, that did not help any. Thanks for all the help.

I have also stated to get green ghosts. What would the average repair cost be to replace the CRT ? Is it something that a somewhat competent person could do?

A friend just gave this TV to me, and the color seems to be way off. Everything is too red, no matter what I try to change. The problem seems to be that green is not rendered correctly. Things that should be green are not, but whites have a green ghost bleeding to the right.

the right side of my set looks good, but as you look to the left you can see green and red ghost images. it gets worst from the center over to the left

The cause of the problem can be that the CRT-s are getting weak. Life span of CRT is around 30000 hours of working time. Please calculate. If you need more info please advice.

CRT is short form for Cathode Ray Tube. In your set there are 3 of them.

  • Anonymous Apr 05, 2007

    CRT-s are under the lenses.

Lamp part number

KP-43T70 is a CRT based rear projector and does not use a Lamp like newer LCD/DLP projectors. It uses 3 (Red, Green, Blue) glycol liquid cooled CRT's (like the picture tubes of yesteryear) to produce the image/light as opposed to a Lamp.

Sony Rear Projection TV - Red tube too strong

remove the front speaker assembly and the small access panel behind it and you will see a small square control assembly with 6 dials on it 3 control the color guns and 3 control the 3 gun focus. Try turning down the red control slightly they will be set up just like the CRTs red green and blue.

Sound stays on & picture goes to blank screen

I do not see any reference on this problem and I even checked with Sony. If you are on a cable box, I suspect that is the problem.
