Some dogs just love to chew on things. In this case, they should not be given stuffed or rope toys.

What types of toys should be given to dogs that play for a long period of time?

If your dog is very playful and can keep itself busy for an hour or more a day, then you should give it rope and chew toys.

Is there a benefit to giving my dog rawhide treats?

Don't feed your dog raw hide bones. Horns/antlers are a better choice

Can anyone recommend a dog toy that is actually indestructible? My dog has gone through so many toys (even the ones advertised as indestructible).

Although Kong toys are great, and do usually last the longest, even they get chewed up. It really depends on the size of your dog for me to recommend a specific toy; however try sporting balls (a hard rubber ball - similar to a lacrosse ball)

I have a Yorkshire Terrier and want to know what the best type of toy is for my dog.

Most small dogs are very active and enjoy getting exercise; so as the owner you should get your dog some toys that will keep them running around and interested. Look for squeaky toys (if the noise wont bother you too much), chew toys, ropes and balls.

Is there anything I need to avoid when buying my dog some toys?

Yes, there are quite a few things to take into consideration when buying your dog some new toys. Dogs can sometimes chew through their toys and ingest pieces that break off. Pieces of string and fabric can come loose and be easily ingested. Look for a toy that is durable, easy to handle, and safe. You should also try to avoid toys that are so small they can be swallowed.

My dog is an aggressive chewer and destroys all the toys we buy

Several claim to be indestructible, but my dog finished them in a day. The bottom line is that dog's chew out of boredom or anxiety. Exercise your dog more rigorously and/or more often, and you should see improvement. If your dog can't hold his/her eyes opened from exhaustion; happy, healthy, and can't chew.

Also, try a horse toy from Tractor Supply or another farm supply chain. They are heavy, durable, and hard to get your mouth around; my GSD loves them. Good Luck!!
