Icemaker clacking and flapping constantly and display lights going wild

Hi, the display lights on my maytag ice2o are all blinking and the flap on the icemaker keeps clacking very loudly every couple of seconds. No ice, no water, and I can't stop the flap. I've unplugged it for a while but it started right back up when I plugged it back in. I've tried pushing all of the buttons but they're not working. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks, Caelon

I have the same blinking lights and ice cube door flapping for several minutes at a time. A telephone service call had me cycle the power several times, check the water line, and reconnet the water filter -- none of these tasks made any difference. I've beeen scheduled for a service call in 2 weeks. Will this flapping door cause any damage to the fridge?

I began having the same problem much like everyone else about 16 - 18 months after purchase. Maytag is aware of the problem and they are paying for part and labor eventhough it is not under warranty anymore. I didn't even have to yell and scream. So, someone has already done that for all of us and they have now allegedly fixed the problem with the board and are paying to have it fixed. Doesn't fix my problem of being without a frig for a week and paying to eat out every night, but it is something.

Came back from vacation and the ice and water wasnt working. Unplugged the fridge and plugged back in and the front panel started flashing and the ice maker flap was continiously flapping. This fridge is 15 months old and figured we would be out of pocket on this but came across this site and found out it's a manufacturer defect! Well, at least it isn't costing us. My husband disconnected the front display panel (under the cap at the top left front side of door) and the fridge has been working fine, just no ice-water-display temps, etc. Called Maytag at 800-688-9900 today and they are sending a repair man here on Thursday. Thanks for the quick service Maytag!

You guys rock! My fridge started the blinking and flapping this morning. I found the solution here. I went to Radio Shack and bought two electrolytic capacitors for $3.11 and came home, soldered them in, put the board back in, plugged in the fridge, and it began working perfectly! The freezer temperature had gotten up to 15 degrees, but the compressor came on, as did the evaporator fan. Thanks a bunch!

I had the exact same problem so HERE IS THE REAL SOLUTION: The first post by schwab is only HALF CORRECT. After the board is replaced it has to be programmed from the front digital display board keys "+ and - keys" There is a code on the inside of the fridge that needs to be entered and a specific sequence to set the program. If not done properly your fridge will not work but will look like it is. Call Maytag for FREE REPLACEMENT. They did mine.

See the post on Samurai Appliance Repair Man's site http://applianceguru.com/forum1/13035-1.html for instructions on how it's possible to fix the HV Controller Board power supply filter caps for $5 in Radio Shack parts (really!). You need to be able to solder electronic components, or know someone who can. There are 2 power supply filter caps that appear to go bad and the result is the blinking and flapping. I had the same problem and decided I could not wait for a $150 replacement back-ordered board.

The ICE2O has gone crazy

Billy, your HV control board has failed. (I know this because I serviced one just last week for the same symptoms and promptly diagnosed and repaired it.) The board can be accessed from the back of the fridge. Roll it out from the wall and look about 2 feet up from the floor on the left hand side. You'll see the cover held in place by 4 1/4" screws. Remove 3 and loosen the last one, rotate the panel out of your way. The board is a snap to remove and replace. The part number you will need is #12920710 and is available at your local appliance parts retailer. It lists for ~$150.00. The kit DOES come with instructions to program it once the repair is complete. Read these completely BEFORE doing the repair so you'll know what to do when you've got it back online.

The control lights on the refrigerator keep blinking. No function for water or ice.

Hi,

Unplug the refrigerator for few minutes, say 30 minutes and then turn it ON. This would reset the control board. If the problem still persists, this is an internal failure, most probably control board. If you have electronics repair experience, could read schematics, would be able to use multimeter and could keep precautions, revert and i would be able to tell you few pointers. However, repairman is recommended as it could be quite dangerous to work on these refrigerators.

Let me know,so that we could proceed.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

We have a french door botom freezer maytag w/ and electronic water/ice dispenser. Model #mfi2568ae In the middle of the night the ice dispenser started opening and closing by itself and the led display is...

Don't be duped into thinking the display/dispenser board is the culprit. It may come a surprise, but this failure is often misdiagnosed. Because the dispenser is causing such a ruckus or because the display itself is blank or flickering, folks are led to believe that the display control board itself is the part that has failed. Looking at the history of our board evaluations, this little tiny control board rarely fails. And as crazy as it may seem, it is the main control board, aka the high voltage control of the fridge that is causing your refrigerator not to cool and the dispenser to be erratic.... This is the main control board of the refrigerator, located on the back of the unit. I've attached photos of what this main control board looks like. This main control board will need to be repaired to replaced.

Maytag Ice2O

I had the same problem 4/28/08 - Called Maytag they're sending the part and repairman free.

IN THE MEAN TIME.......Maytag suggested to me to: take a phillips head screw driver and remove the hinge cover from the top of the left door. You'll find a white connector with four wires coming from each side. Disconnect the connector in the middle and the flap will stop (and so will the lights).

Panel flashing, ice door opening and closing constantly

I had the same problem, with this model and it was the high voltage control board located in the rear. Replaced the board and it is working OK. Maytag Part # 12920710 will work on this model and it is 40.00 cheaper than the one it shows when you do a parts search. It will come up 12920709. I checked with Maytag and they said 710 will work..
