Many a times while playing games i get an error saying that the graphics device has entered into an infinity loop . it says that it is the problem of the device or the driver so i have downloaded all the available drivers for my OS from the internet and none of them worked .this problem occurs mostly while playing games of any sort .In one of the drivers this error appears even when a video file is opened .Please Help.
Same. I can't play any games. It starts glitching so I have to alt tab to fix it. Downloaded all the new drivers, still no. Went back to the old ones, nope. ;/

First try to pop the 8800gt into a friend's computer, if it works for them uninstall and re-install drivers yet again, followed by a format if appropriate. If it does not work, try to get a RMA on the card.

This error comes usually when there is problem in software or driver compatibility issue with hardware or operating system. Also this error comes when there is bed indexing unit in hard drive. You can solve this errors with following 2 methods. (1)When you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in safe mode. Then if you are able to enter in safe mode then uninstall driver or software which you installed recently and face this error. (2)If you are not able to enter in safe mode Then you need to fix error on hard drive. For that you need windows disk or recovery disk. Boot your computer with that disk For that when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 "del" key to enter in bios. Then go to boot menu and set first boot device as your cd or dvd rom. Then save settings and exit bios. Insert windows disk in cd /dvd rom. Then it boot with that disk. Then you get this message "Press any key to boot from cd.." Then press any key. Then follow the procedure then enter in recovery console mode then type in prompt "chkdsk /r" Then type "y" Then it fix error on hard drive. Then check if again you are not able to enter in windows then boot again and this time choose "R" option for repair previous windows " then it repairs old windows then it loads again old windows. Thanks for using FixYa.
if the new graphics card was installed by a authorised technician, Dell is obligated to help you out even though the computer is out of warranty, the graphics adapter isn't. if Dell does not respond to your requests, you should file complaint with their customer support department.
The problem is probably to do with your video card especially as it only happens when you are playing a game.
It may be to do with a corrupt driver or a actual hardware problem with your video card. I found a news group article here that talks about similar problems and several solutions that worked for them. Apparently there is more than one thing that can cause this error.
I did a google search on this "nv4_disp the device driver got stuck in an infinite loop" with out the quotes and found heaps of information. Looks like you might need to read up a bit.
One other thing you might want to check. It may be heat related. Make sure all your case fans are working. There may also be a fan directly on the video board.
check the temps for your video card... if it exceeds 55-60 degrees celcius. its probably heating up. try to upgrade the GPU cooling. "Palit, inno3d, galaxy" these brands usually has crappy cooling systems for their cards. Plus, the nvidia 9800 series is known to produce alot of heat.
I've had a similar problem like yours... I've had a 9800GT inno3d.. it has a crappy cooling system to i had to buy it a zalman graphics card cooling system. It solved the problem...
