I am with AOL and cannot get this router to connect. I have reset it (inserting a pin in the hole at the bottom) but no luck.
I can't find anywhere to put my username and password into it.
I think Sky have blocked the router so you Can't use it with any other ISP.
I would be obliged if anyone can tell me simply how to get around this.
OK - it can be very simple to do, but took me two hours to work out ;-)
Google for all the info you can.
Download the recovery utility from Netgear.
Download the latest OS from Netgear.
Flash the router with the OS.
Enter the router config panel.
Change the Sky login and password to the ones given you by your ISP.
That should be that.
Keep trying: I did, I'm no expert, and I got there.
Do everything you can to a*sf*ck Murdoch and his company.
You are right mate...Sky has disabled the uname n pword n locked the firmware... I really dont think anything will work however u can try finding a work around of how to remove the existing firmware n upgrade a new firmware... That might work

Re: sky branded Netgear DG834GT router
You could be right, but normally, as long as you can get into the routers settings by typing it's IP address in your internet browser, you can go through the connection process using the wizard;or go to the connection menu, or new connection and enter your password and username.

There is a reset button the modem iteself.
You can check for a small hole on the bottom side of the modem, under it is the reset button usually.
So, when the modem is turned on, then you can use a pin and insert it in the hole and try to hold it for at least 30 seconds.
After that release it and your modem will be reset.
After doing this resetting, you will again have to configure your router for internet connection.
Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on yourcomputer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL - http://192.168.0.1 The default login = admin The default PW = passwordYou can now change the default admin password and configurethe wireless settings. Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption. Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer. If BT tested the phone line is OK but did AOL test the connection to the Netgear router and get the IP address of your Netgear router.
The phone connection is OK but the ADSL connection from the telephone exchange may not be working, that is why you are not getting an ADSL light.
You can factory reset the router using the small button on the back,
hold it in for 30 seconds with the power on to the router. This will
clear all settings from the router including the password, so you will
need to set up the router again after the reset.
