I am running 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium on an ASUS laptop. I am trying to record from cassette to my laptop. Before the recovery I just did on my computer, Hotwire would open immediately after I plugged the USB into the port. But, since I did the recovery, which is basically a reinstall of the whole system, Hotwire will not start. The computer makes a sound when it's plugged in or removed from the USB drive, but nothing else happens. How can I make the computer open the software? Thanks
What kind of 'recovery' did you do ?
If you did a 'factory recovery', then you will likely have to re-install the Hotwire software before it will recognize the device.
I thought that might be the problem. But I can't find an installation disk for Hotwire. I don't throw away installation disks,... but it appears I may have this time. Can I get a new installation disk?
I did a factory recovery.
the best source for drivers is from the mfr's website....though their may be copies of it elsewhere on the internet.
according to their website, there is no disk, the drivers are in the device itself. When you plug it in, go to the device manager [or Sounds in control panel] and see if it is listed. Set it as the Default audio device.
In the Sound dialog box, I click on the Recording tab. INport Hotwire is listed among the devices, and it is the Default audio device. In the Recording tab, I went to Properties > LIsten, and checked "Listen to this device". So it now plays the music through the computer speakers. Also in the Recording tab, there's a field that says "Device Usage: Use this device (enabled)". So the only problem is the software application does appear, and I can't do anything with it.
Oops, I meant, "...the only problem is the software application does NOT appear..."
does the software appear in the list of 'all programs' on the Start menu ? If so, then you should be able to launch the app manually
According to Xitel support, there was an installation disk for the software, and I no longer have it. But it turns out that any digital recording software can work with Hotwire. So I downloaded such an application, and I'm back to digitizing my recordings. Thanks everyone for the assistance.

Hotwire used to open automatically when I plugged the usb cable into the usb port. But it doesn't open at all since I did the recovery on the computer.
In answer to the email I just got, "No the problem is not solved." I don't see where to click "No". I've said everything about the issue in the above two comments. Thank you.
I mean I said everything about it in the last two comments on Aug. 25.
