Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 Digital Camera power button does not work

The power button will not turn the camera on or off; however, if I press the power button, then press the button that changes the screen from live mode to pictures taken mode, then it will work. After using the camera, I have to wait until the auto shut-off turns off the camera. It stilll takes good pictures but I don't know who or how to fix it.

In today's cameras on off button only give a pulse to processor to switch on.actually camera is on all time technically.only screen is off.Your problem may be flex connection to main board has failed. The group connector for on off, click, Tele, wide, all together forms one connector. Whole part to be replaced by camera technician to save your camera.

SOURCE: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC W30 - says "ACCESS"

I fixed the problem that I reported above by physically pulling the lens out with my fingers as the camera tried to do it itself. It took a few tries, but eventually it came out. Power on the camera and pull the lens housing outward. I think I will have to repeat this occasionally, but I haven't used the camera much recently. The lesson in this is do not lend this camera to an 8-year-old.

SOURCE: problem with sony cyber shot dsc- w80

I jeremy- i was having the exact same problem today. I phoned Sony repair, who then had me take out the battery and hold down the power button for about 30 seconds..reinsert the battery and power up. Didn't fix it. I came home and read some posts on here. I ended up trying the gently twist the lens as it was zooming in and out..I twisted a little and pulled a little. About the third time, it worked. (I also held the power button down with the battery in, just to try..maybe that helped, too). Sony wants flat fee of $91 to fix..is that what they told you?

SOURCE: Sony Cyber-shot DSC- W55 takes blurry pictures

Hi!
The focus doesn't move as it should - it was stuck before you tapped it. Could be sand or something in it. I'm afraid you will have to give it away for a repair. You can contact your local Sony service center, but if they ask too much, I can offer you a very good price. My e-mail is [email protected]
I work in a Sony service center.

Hope this helps!

I have a Sony H5 camera. I just notice that if I go to take a picture I press the button, the green light flashers and then it snaps it with pressing all the way down

Greetings - That's how the camera was designed to work. Pressing the shutter half way down makes the camera auto focus. When it's in focus it turns solid green and you then press the shutter all the way down.

I suggest you read the getting started guide that comes with your camera or on line HERE.

Enjoy your camera and thanks for using Fix Ya

I have a Sony Cyber shot DSC-H2. When the shutter button is depressed halfway, it does not focus as it should do. Is there a simple solution to this?

The Sony DSC-H2 and DSC-H5 have a terrible shutter button design and the tiny little "bubble" that is responsible for the "half press focus" can be easily damaged.

If you do a Google search for "Sony shutter button repair" you will see the #1, 2 and 3 links are all for www darntoothysam com. We have done hundreds of this repair over the years!

The repair service is just $70 total IF we can repair it without replacing the part, installation and return shipping of the camera. Please visit our site, we would be happy to service your camera.

Hope this helps!

The button you press while taking the picture came off.

The Sony DSC-H2 and DSC-H5 have a terrible shutter button design and Sony will not admit that it's a design problem. The post for the shutter button is so thin that it snaps in half very easily!!

My LCD dose not display anything. If I take a picture nothing shows up at all only a black screen. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 is about 2 and half years old. Please help and many thanks My shutter...

Unless it has recently been dropped or the screen cracked, the LCD power drive circuit has failed. Your batteries sound OK if it is taking pictures. 2 and a half years is not an unreasonable life for this camera. I would spend my money and time working toward a new one rather than repairs. Sometimes you can find one on Ebay for parts and may be worth a purchase but don't waste anything on a factory repair. Taking them apart and replacing components is not that difficult and procedures can be obtained online from digital camera REPAIR FORUMS.

I have a Sony DSC-H5 and the shutter button does not allow me to push it half way -- only all-the-way -- the macro won't focus.

It is a common problem on this model. You need to replace the control assembly to fix the problem. Here is a link to show you how to replace the assembly and where to get the part.
