I replaced the toner cartidge in my 1815dn and got the "invalid cartridge" error. Took out the first new toner, tried the second. Same error. These are not Dell cartridges. I have been using these cartridges for 4 years or more. When i inserted the original cartridge (which was working, although not well), I now have the same error. Any suggestions? Now I have faxes in the memory, too. Thanks for any help.

Your unit is actually manufactured by Samsung. Most probably you have a bad paper sensor. As a technician, you will find these sensors on the power supply board (SMPS)or main board. If your are receiving tech support from Dell, please illustrate those guys on how to do their job.
SOURCE: Dell 1700 laser printer has Low toner and error lights flashing
Leave the printer on. Open the front and hold down the cancel button until all the lights are flashing in sequence. Close the front while still holding the cancel with the lights flashing and then release the cancel button. This should reset it.
Thanks
SOURCE: HELP!!!Toner cartridge jammed in school Dell 3000cn printer.
To rotate the carousel of the printer and not use the front panel do the following. Remove the drum; place it somewhere away from light. Leave the top open where you removed the drum. Close the front door. By closing the front door, you have depressed the locking mechanism that locks the carousel in place. Now using both your left and right hand and using even pressure, rotate the carousel (from the top of the printer) to the position where the toner is at. If the carousel makes any kind of clicking/grinding noise then it is still being affected by the locking mechanism, I would not suggest continuing. If you do not exert even pressure when rotating it this way, the carousel can become canted (twisted) and then would need to be replaced..

Open the front of the printer then hold down the cancel button. When the lights flash close the front and it should Reset.
SOURCE: I AM CHANGING THE BLACK TONER CARTRIDGE ON A DELL
Either the "toner cartridge sensor" N4445 isn't reading the chip in the toner,
or an MCU board P5281 or EEPROM is defective

Cartridges were loaded with the wrong chip. They can't explain why the old cartridge quit working, but once the chips were replaced, everything worked just fine.
