Question about Thomson Lyra PDP2860 Digital Media Player

1 Answer

Copyright Problem Hi. I have the Lyra mp4 player, and thought i'd be able to convert my dvds onto it. Some I can, but most come with copy protection. When you start to record onto the unit, it gets about 5 seconds in then a message comes up saying its copy protected and so should not record it. Im not trying to do anything illegal here like share or sell it, I just want to watch the dvds on the move! Its the same argument as converting an audio cd onto your mp3 player. I was wondering if anyone knew any ways to disable this feature on the Lyra, or any ways to stop the copyright signal getting passed through the scart lead? Thanks.

I dont think there is any way to stop that, the publisher makes the dvds with an anti-copy thing for this device, i dont know of any way to combat it, but if you have a laptop, you could open the DVD's folders, and take the DVD files themselves, and copy and paste them onto your computer

It is not difficult to put DVDs onto your Creative Zen X-FI. However, commercial DVDs are generally encrypted. In order to copy these DVD to Creative ZEN, you'd need to break that encryption, which can be done by Daniusoft DVD Ripper. It is a powerful and easy-to-use DVD to Creative Zen X-Fi Converter software

It can convert DVD to Creative Zen video including AVI,WMV,MPEG that fits for Creative Zen. This DVD to Creative Zen Converter can also convert DVD to Creative Zen audio MP3, WMA, WAV with super fast speed and excellent quality.

Also, it is very easy to use. All you need to do is:
  1. 1. Importing you DVDs;
  2. 2. Choose output format and path;
  3. 3. Then start converting.
All the tasks of ripping DVD to Creative Zen files will be down in good quality and high speed.

Can't convert mp4 files to my supposed media player...

As for the episodes you bought on iTunes, I'm not sure how to go about converting those, but your player uses the .mp4 format (according to Samsung) my guess is that iTunes has enabled DRM on those files that is making it impossible to load on another player. (here is a link to some software that supposedly removes DRM http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/)
As far as ripping DVDs to your mobile device the best application I have found is: Xilisoft DVD to iPod Converter don't let the name fool you. I use this to rip dvds so I can load them onto my Playstation 3. It is simply a DVD -> .MP4 converter.

I'm trying to put my existing DVDs on the Sansa e250

If the movie file you are trying to convert is too long, then the converter will get stuck - this player is not big enough to really handle full length DVD movies. It's more for shorts from YouTube, etc. If it is a half hour show, or something like that, you may have a copyright protection issue that is blocking you. i'm not endorsing any illegal activity, but here is a comment from an owner of your player (hint hint):
"
It Worked!!! I loaded the DVD Decrypter & Chopper. I was able to convert the show into clips and the clips have been loaded onto the Sansa. The entire show is about 47 minutes; it converted into a bunch of files. I was able to find the four .VOB files that "formed" the show. Is there a way of linking all the clips together? The way it is on the Sansa now is as 4 individual clips. Each clip seems to end and begin in the middle of dialogue and not at "traditional" DVD chapter points. If there is no way of bridging the clips together, that is fine. I am just glad I was able to get the show loaded onto the player at all. Thanks again, I really appreciate your patience."

Copyright protection is to prevent you from illegally stealing material and breaking the law.

If you Google for DVD copying software you will find lots of programs out there. Do remember though, copying DVDs and Video is illegal!
