Lexmark x646e error 298.02 scanner missing, cable unplugged.

I unplugged the 2 cables on the back of the scanner and did a power cycle. Plugged everything back in, even tightened the cables with a screwdriver to make sure they are seated correctly and I am still getting the error message. I can still print but can't do anything else (copy or scan). Help!

Who ever thinks it is a software (as in computer driver) problem, you need to read what the problem was and the steps already taken to solve.
As you can see it is clearly to do with the cables and is a common problem with these copiers. We have three in shop right now with same issues!

The areas to look at are the cable connectors for damage, if you are technical you can open the adf plastic covers, and follow your scanner cables make sure no "pinching" has occured.

Other than that you can try factory reset, although this rarely works for this problem.

Refurbished units are retailing arond $350-400 all over google.

You have a problem with printer need to contact Lexmark your scanner is probably broken.

I had the same problem. Fixed it by reinstalling the drivers for the motherboard (USB drivers in particular). Hope this helps.

What you will see
When trying to print, you get a communication error; the device is correctly detected in the Device Manager, the firewall is not blocking any files and you can scan using the All-In-One Printer.
Explanation
Any PC using the AMD USB architecture is preventing the printer from printing when connecting via USB.
What to do
Follow the specific steps for the PC manufaturer below:
Dell Studio 1536:
IMPORTANT: Do not replace any hardware, before performing the following steps:

Step Action 1 Go to Control Panel 2 Go to Programs and Features 3 Uninstall AMD USB Audio Driver Filter
Note: Uninstalling this USB audio driver doesn't cause any impact for systems with Vista Service Pack 1 installed

Acer Aspire 5530, Extensa 4130, Extensa 4430, and TravelMate 4530:
There are files available to address printing problems when connected to a USB printer or multi-function printer, for Windows Vista and Windows XP.

  • Printer did not print, print jobs will be listed with the status "error" in the task list
  • No error message appears, printer simply does not print
  • Problem only manifests when the printer is connected via USB

The ICC card and/or Motor Driver Card has failed.
ICC - 40X0485
Motor Driver Card - 40X0486

ICC is located in the rear of the flatbed assy. Motor Driver card is in the rear of the ADF Assy.

Lexmark x945e..scanner missing/ cable unplugged..298.01troubleshooting

Turn off printer.
Begin by unplugging ALL exterior peripheral cables that plug into scanner and printer base. Pay close attention to all pins on these cables and ensure none are bent.
Put all cables back carefully ensuring to properly seat them.
Turn printer back on.
If error returns, then you would need to then check all connections on Scanner Controller Card inside scanner.
Could be this card and/or cables, or RIP(system board).

I have the same issue, It just means to update the firmware. so far, i haven't got it to work after the firmware update. I laready replaced mainboard and scanner control board. lexmarp suggest to replaced the whole flatbed scanner.

here is what i have found -- follow to all instructions accordingly
although its for another model, these isntructions apply according t their techsupport i spoke with


.Power off the All-In-One (AIO) and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Wait 30 seconds. Then reinsert the power supply and power the AIO on.
Did the error message return?

Yes: Continue to step 2.
No: Attempt a test scan. If the error message does not reappear, the error is resolved.

Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Open the scanner cover. Check the scanner glass for cracks and the scanner casing for cracks. Close the scanner lid. Open the top cover of the AIO. Using the carrier belt, move the cartridge carrier to the middle of the unit. Remove both cartridges, close the top cover, reinsert the power supply, and power the AIO on.
Did the error message return?

Yes: Continue to Contacting Lexmark.
No: Continue to step 3.

Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Open the top cover of the AIO. Using the carrier belt, move the cartridge carrier to the middle of the unit. Insert the color cartridge, close the top cover, reinsert the power supply, and power on the AIO.
Did the error message return?

Yes: Repeat step 3 with another color cartridge. If the printer fails again, continue to step 4.
No: Repeat step 3 and install the black/photo cartridge. If both cartridges are installed, attempt a test scan. If the error message does not reappear, the error is resolved.

Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Open the top cover of the AIO. Using the carrier belt, move the cartridge carrier to the middle of the unit. Remove the color cartridge and insert the black/photo cartridge. Then close the top cover, reinsert the power supply, and power the AIO on.
Did the error message return?

Yes: Repeat step 4 with another black/photo cartridge. If the printer fails again, continue to Contacting Lexmark.
No: Install the color cartridge. If the printer fails, continue to Contacting Lexmark. If the error message does not appear with both cartridges installed, attempt a test scan. If the error message does not reappear, the error is resolved.

Error: 900 Service , RIP software e340 Printer

Turn the machine off unplug the power cord from it and leave disconnected for 10 mins.
Power back on if error still is present..
Power off again disconnect whatever cables are plugged in (Network cable/ USB) power back on if error error goes away with the cable(s) disconnected replace the usb/cat5 cable(s)
once that's done and the error is still present the system board will need to be replaced.

If you are getting any type of 'CLEAR SYSTEM ERROR' on the LCD screen of the printer, please follow these steps:
1) Remove the power cable for 2 minutes and the USB cable from behind the printer.
2) Press and hold down the stop clear button and reconnect the power cable back to printer.
3) The printer LCD screen should clear the memory error.
4) If the same error message persist on the LCD screen, please follow the instructions below.
5) Unplug the power cable for 2 minutes and USB cables from behind the printer and open the printer cover and remove both ink carts.
6) Repeat step 2 and Install both cartridges then the screen will display Cartridge's clean, press start.
