HELP! I ran the self-cleaning cycle. Finally got the lock to unlock but then when I preheated the oven it relocked itself (even though the "lock" was not slid over). So in desperation I reran the self-cleaning cycle--but it will not open even when "unlocked." And I have 12 people coming for passover dinner tomorrow night.

sounds like the lock motor has failed. Lots of clicking noises and not being able to lock/unlock is normally a good indicator. In some rare circumstances, main control board could be faulty. Look for me on 6ya if you need any more detailed help.
Sounds like a circuit board issue. If in Warranty, contact the manufacturer and have the controller replaced. A routine cleaning has noting to do with the normal operation of the baking or broiling function. Cleaning is disengaged after the door is unlocked and ready for general aplications.
Your switch isnt right ,check the wiring on the switch or make sure the switch is closing or opening when its suppose to,you should hear a click each time it opens or closes. your problem is in the switch area no where else, the computer on the oven needs tosee that switch input and doesnt
Here are some solution on how to unlock the door of your oven ans do self cleaning below.
IF you can locate the model number tag (bottom left of door opening) you can look up the manual at www.geappliances.com The
only button on your stove that should make the door lock would be the
clean button (self clean model) if that is pressed simply hit the
clear/off or cancel key and wait for the door to unlock. IF the self
clean option ran for an hour or so, you will have to wait for the oven
to cool down before the lock can unlock (safety feature).hope this helps you out please rate this solution it helps get better results for our customers like you
Here are solution on how to clean up your oven below.
Remove oven racks and soak them in soapy water.
Turn on your automatic oven cleaner; this usually entails locking the door and turning the function switch to "clean."
Let the oven do its work;it will heat for several hours, charring off baked-on foods.
Remove oven racks and place them in soapy water to soak.
Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
Turn the oven off and spray the inside with oven cleaner.
Allow to sit for 10 minutes.
Wipe the cleaner and dirt away with a damp sponge, rinsing frequently.
Had this EXACT same problem the day before a party where I needed the oven for lots of baking.... Tried all sorts of things, was about to call a repair man- I FINALLY got it to open by following the first two directions for putting it into self clean mode (turned both knobs to CLEAN), then when it said to lock door I tried to move the lock lever and bam it worked! Give it a shot! Good luck! (:
My Spectra XL44 suddenly refuses to ignite the baking portion of the oven - broiler and top work just fine. The day before it was working fine. Wondered if it was an electrical egnition problem - gas feed or what??? Help!! [email protected]
