I just bought this range off somebody, they didn't have an owner's manual and an F1 message comes up on the display from time to time. I usually press the cancel key and it will stop. Sometimes I have to press it more than once, but it stops. Sometimes, it even starts going off in the middle of the night. I don't cook anything overnight, so this is when it's not in use. I also have no idea what some of the controls do, and can't seem to obtain an owner's manual online. There is little information I have been able to find on this range, I would assume because of the age of the range. Any help with the F1 thing would be appriciated, and any other information on this range would be great.
Seems Maytags have never fixed this problem. I have a 1993 and have had to replace the membrane (touchpad) every 4 yrs. If you can do it yourself, actually easy, you will save $$ for repairman, and can order part from Repair Clinic.com.
Only trick is carefully opening up the stove top, having someone hold it up for you while you disconnect the membrane...
Http://www.maytag.com/assets/pdfs/literature/MER5570AAA.pdf is the owner's manual. The F1 thing seems to be a common problem with this model involving the electronics - one or both circuit boards in the control pannel. Most common solution: repair call and $$, although the Maytag repair people suggest resetting the oven by unplugging for about and hour and re-plugging the oven.

The first step to fixing the inner element of a Maytag Precision Touch Control 800 Electric Slide-In Smoothtop is to check the power supply for the range. Make sure all connections are secure and that the outlet is working properly. If the power supply is fine, then you may need to replace the inner element on your range. It would be advisable to consult the manual

MET8776BS Maytag Gemini Smoothtop Double Oven Range - Stainless Steel - Reviews ... Really like the features, however one burner doesn't work, after a month.... 2 ovens sure beats the storage bin underneath! the only negative I can think of is ...I bought my double oven a few months ago and am very happy with it.
Sounds like a stuck relay in the control board. The only way to repair this problem is going to be by replacing the control board. If you have anymore questions please ask. I'll be more than happy to help you further.
