Question about Toshiba Satellite P30 Notebook

Shuts down My laptop has just arrived from ebay and the battery is critical. So I plugged in the mains and the battery does charge but as soon as it runs down it switches off the system.Shouldn't it keep running if the mains is plugged in?Is there a special switch to convert it to mains power?

The laptop was not new,but advertised as "working perfectly".I know what it is supposed to do,but it does not. Therefore I think I have been had.

I already had the battery and the power adapter tested by a technician and they are ok.

Thank you I have already contacted the previous owners and they say it was working perfecly when they posted it.I don't think they are willing to help me at all. What is the live help request? I don't know how to go about that.

If you haven?t already done so you should immediately contact the seller. Most electronics sold on Ebay is guaranteed to at least work upon delivery. Yours wasn?t and they should replace or refund your money. Chances are pretty good the seller probably didn?t know any better and just tested without seeing if the battery held a charge. If you haven?t opened up the laptop chances are pretty good an established Ebay seller will make good since it was described as ?working perfectly.

To know for sure, take your power supply to an electronics shop to get it tested. And also, get the battery tested just to know for sure.

Is this laptop brand new? Because normally, when you plug in the power adapter, the battery charges up to 100% and stays there UNTIL the power adapter is unplugged. Then it will start to run down its power. It's not supposed to run down with the power adapter plugged in. Also, if you take out the battery and only plug in the power adapter, it should work fine. If it doesn't, then there's a problem with the adapter.

Y laptop will only work on mains power. When I put in the battery, laptop shuts down.

This is either a problem with the battery or the motherboard.

If you can find someone with a similar Toshiba you can try their battery in your laptop, if it works then it's obviously a problem with the battery itself and you'll need to order a new one.

If it doesn't work then it's a motherboard problem which can be pretty expensive to fix (hopefully you're still under warranty)

Sounds like your battery is faulty and not charging. Try replacing the battery or just use the mains lead with the battery removed. If this keeps happening replace the system board

Hi, i think the battery has completely run down, i suggest you get another battery and ensure you don't allow the new battery to completely run down before yo charge.

As`soon as it shows low battery, you try charge or shut down to save and give your battery long life span.

I wish best of luck

After 4 or 5 years, the battery will be too dead or old to take a charge. It needs to be replaced.
