More than likely is leek. Must get to it to look at connections and air line to find out If slow probably would hear it. But loud you will find it. Tighten connections if it's there, other wise replace line

Considering the age of the machine I'd be looking at basic maintenance first. Things like air filter, fuel filter, carb condition, spark plugs, oil and oil filter change. Then start thinking about valve condition and clearances.
are the carpets in side dry might be leeking from heating unit cylinder head jackets leeking you would see the water running down the sides of the engine split hoses leek in radiator or expansion tank hoses how much does it lose has the mechanic done a pressure test there could be a crack in the block or cylinder head a pressure test would find all these leeks
If you take apart the pump mechanism you will see a little black o ring that has dried out either Reuben or replace and add a little oil to the mechanism to keep lubed and it will work fine.

Sounds like you have a problem with either the valve leaking or possibly the piston head. I know by expierence that pumping the rifle more than once wont cause failure, so the issue here is not your fault. If the rifle is under warrenty then return it and get a replacement. If not then call Daisy and talk with their quality guy. He has helped me out a few times.
the water pump is behing a metal plate that you you would have to take off in order to look at it. if you have the 3.5 motor and are losing water then thats where it wil most likely be coming from,
