Headlights turn on when car sits outside over night and temperature drops near or below freezing, usually resulting in dead battery the next morning.
Any idea as to what is causing the problem?

Remove the fuse labeled ECU-B from the fuse panel inside the vehicle. The instrument panel fuse block is located underneath the instrument panel on the driver's side of the car. This will disable to Daytime Running Lights. These have been known to come on at odd times during cold weather and thus drain the battery. Disconnect the battery and have it fully charged using a battery charger that you plug in to your homes electric supply, or replace the battery with a new one. This should keep the Daytime Runners from coming on and draining your battery when the car is not on. Once you have done this you can then take the vehicle to a service location and have the issue taken care of. This is only a band-aid so you can limp through until you can get it fixed. This is not a permenant solution.

My 2000 Toyota Corolla's low beam headlights turn on during the day and off during the night. I have changed some of the fuses in the fuse box. I'm not sure what to try next.

assuming the 2000 is same as 2001-2002, the headlight system runs upon firing engine and they stay on... doesn't make sense , if headlights work during day light and don't during night time, check your light switch , move it around , wiggle etc.. if no diff. , check head light sensor and did you know there are like 3 or 4 diff. fuse box's , there is one in the dash!!!, driver side i believce , good luck

Is there anyway to manual turn off the headlights of my 2004 Pontiac Vibe while the car is on?

Its supposed to stay on for some reason the daytime running lights are bigger than the all the others so its really confusing

Lights come on when car is real cold ...thus killing the battery does this mean there is a short somewhere?

No it is not a short, mine does the same thing. It seems the headlight/turnsignal switch has some issue that closes the contacts for the headlights when the temperature goes down around freezing. I don't want to replace the switch as it won't be cheap but I did find that flipping the high beams switch to "on" and leaving it in that position before turning the engine off for the night will prevent the lights from coming on by themselves and discharging the battery. Really!

Insterment panel light out.

When you say you replace the fuse 3 times, is because the fuse have blown? If so, there is a short in the system and will need expert help to trace the short.
Does the day time running light stay on during day light hours and does the lights comes on without activating the headlight switch during night hours when the park brake is released?
If so, this of course is normal condition. If not then the day time running light circuit needs diagnosing along with the body module circuit. Headlight switch will also need to be tested.
