How do I f/w update??????

I have a samsung m230 version YP-U2J, and since about a week ago whenever I turn it on, the screen says "Need to format with f/w updater". THen it automatically turns off. I plugged it into the computer, and Napster didn't recognize it, although usually it does. I clicked Update Napster when my mp3 player was plugged in, but nothing happened. I really need help, I can't afford to get a new mp3 player!!!!!!I would really appreciate your help, if I figure it out before anyone helps, I'll notify you. THanx so much!

Here's the site with the firmware upgrade download: http://www.samsung.com/support/productsupport/download/Model_Select.aspx?type=Digital+Audio+Player(YEPP)&typecode=200600&subtype=Yepp&subtypecode=200601&model=YP-U2JQB/XAA&filetype=FM&language= although I'm sure that the f/w updater is within this program here: http://www.samsung.com/support/productsupport/download/Model_Select.aspx?type=Digital+Audio+Player(YEPP)&typecode=200600&subtype=Yepp&subtypecode=200601&model=YP-U2JQB/XAA&filetype=SW&language= That should help you with your problem. First download and install the first link, then use the tools that are within that program. Once finished, update it with the firmware update and you should be alright.

I meant to say download and install the second link first...

At least state what happened...Did you use the f/w updater, and if you did, what happened afterwards?

I has the same problem. You have to push the play button (hold it down), plug it into the computer and continue to hold it down until the computer finds the hardware (about 10 seconds). After that I was able to launch the firmware update. It found the device and installed the new updated firmware. After completion, the device worked fine.

I just went through this today and had to call 1(800)Samsung to resolve. There is a reset hole on the end opposite the USB connector but pressing it made the problem worse (now it boots to 20% and just powers off with no messages). I downloaded the firmware updates but the software could never find the player even though when I plugged into the USB port Windows would see SOMETHING was plugged in.
First make sure the firmware updater software is installed on your PC. Then the key to the fix is to take the player, press and hold the Play button (on top, same as power) and while holding it in then plug into the USB port. Windows hardware wizard will launch. Tell it ok and let it auto find the drivers. From this point when its all done now launch the same software and relaod the firmware and resync from WMP.

YP-U2JXB & YP-U2JZW Won't sync...Help!

Error C00D1236 virtually always indicates one of two things:

1) The device is trying to sync hidden files--are there any?
2) There is licensed media that is being synced, and the license is either corrupt or has expired. If you have any licensed media, then try going back to where you purchased it (in an iTunes-like music management program? In WMP?) and refresh/renew the license.

The bad news is that until C00D1236 is resolved, you can't sync your device. frown.gif

You can bypass syncing, and directly transfer files, In my computer, the mp3 plaer will be shown as a drive.

Now if one of the two solutions above is not feasible for u, try this:

In case you have a problem to connect your Samsung YP-U2J Mp3 player, you should update Firmware to get it working. The new Firmware may be downloaded from Samsung.com.
