Our LCD tv picture suddenly lost colour and is black and white...also the image is wavy and incomprehensible. Of course our warranty just expired and Dell won't help us. We called another Dell helpline and have left several messages but they won't call us back! We have checked all the settings and cable connections we can think of, including the factory reset.
Can anyone offer any insight??

It is pretty much junk, sorry to say it but your picture tube went out and it is cheaper to buy a new t.v. My grandpa use to fix them for us for free but he passed:( If you call some where see how much they would charge for a picture tube, I bet it's expensive???
your TV has burn screen or traces.it comes from one image left on the screen for too long, it can get burned into the screen, making it visible at all times. You can actually eliminate most screen burns with the use of a PC computer and a black and white screen saver. This trick eliminates screen burn after a period of several minutes because the black and white screens flash quickly, removing all traces of color from the screen. This will eventually eliminate any burned images on the LCD screen.you can do it by creating a DVD picture slide with only black and white image.you can use a computer to make DVD picture slidefirstgo to paint brush and draw only white then save as white.jpg.secondburn it into nero or other dvd burnerthirdplay it to your DVD player connected to you LCD TV.it has to be played in full screen
let the white image display on your HDTV for several hours or even overnight. It should remove any burned-in images or ghosts.hope this help............... thanks....
You will need to connect all the cables for component to get a colour image. The component cable has 3 connectors all for video. If you have connected only one cable for video then you will not get colour information. Component needs all 3 to get colour and luminence information. You can use a regular composite cable but you have make sure you match up the colour codes on both sides i.e to TV and to the source. The other two Red and White a separate cable is for Audio.
This is no solution but a point in a probable direction.
A tech guy told me ALL the LCDs they have seen in their repair shop have "swollen" capacitors, this is due to voltage instability. Lowering the internal voltage regulator and replacing the swollen capacitors (which eliminate noise) apparently restores the LCD to new working quality. Without actually "seeing" my problem the tech said that should repair it. I have not tried this yet but eventually will begin that way.
