When the washer goes into the first drain and spin mode the inside drum appears to be off balance as it spins unevenly and sounds like it is hitting the sides. It wobbles terribly and this happens even when the dryer that sits on top has been removed. The spin is not smooth. The washer is level as that has been checked. The drum inside just seems to be unbalanced as it goes into the first major spin.Is not the cabinet itself as that stays firm, it is just the inside drum that does not spin smoothly.
Dc, drop the front bottom panel and make sure the 4 shocks are connected to the tub and bottom panel, then check the front and rear counterweights. They may have loosened up. Remove back panel or top to check the rear counterweight. The top removes by removing the 3 screws in back and it slides off. If all this checks ok then I would suspect the rear bearing wollowing out. Catriver..post back.

Had a similar problem, what solved most of my problem was leveling the machine. I found the jam nuts on the feet had loosened and worked their way down letting the feet move. I also found a corrugated type hose on the right side of the machine banging on one of the side stiffeners, I insulated it and that took care of it.

A similar thing happened to me. I found a broken counterweight in the rear. I've temporarily removed the loose section and tightened the remaining. This works until I can get the replacement which I expect will take a few weeks (no one has them in stock)
