I have a Canon Smartbase MP730.
My son went to print a documant and got a message saying "printer not responding." He's only 11 bless him and all he did next was press the Green go button on the printer. Nothing else what-so-ever. I now have the alarm light flashing and an error message saying "Wrong cartridge."
I have tried turning the printer off and unpluging it for a while to no avail. I have taken out and returned the ink tanks too this didn't help either. I would have looked in the user manual but for some strange reason it's no where to be found.
Anyway I'm hoping you guys (and girls) can offer a solution.
Thanks for looking anyway,
Un install printer unplug printer dont just turn it off.

Clean the print head/cartridge with Isopropol Alcohol (rubbing alcohol)and Q-Tips, The nozzles, the contacts and all the excess ink that had acummulated around the nozzles. The error message should clear.Run through all the maintenance checks and alignments. If this does not fix it, the print head needs to be replaced about $45-$60 from Canon.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Thanks, Joe
It's worth repairing, That error on a Canon is saying that the printhead is bad, not your cartridges. The part number for your printhead is stamped on the side of the printhead could be QY6-0049-000 but I'm not sure.
You have Vista this is the problem- there may be a driver issue here take a look at http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=3&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.opendrivers.com%2Fcategorycompany%2F1405%2F129%2Fmultifunction-canon-free-driver-download.html&ei=DvyBSL7IOZ3uQo-KpLYN&usg=AFQjCNExG7VOz91yswKZfouV8puBHufbKQ&sig2=gL2G5p7ndcDLosNQmPsh4w
Have you tried doing some maintenance like nozzle check, printing head alignment, clean the nozzles if not then try it by going into control panel - printers and faxes - where you see your mp730 right click and go to properties then click on the last tab which would be maintenance.Try those options if none worked then u might have to replace you print head and that should work
