SOURCE: Acer l100 memory upgrade

I just attempted this, and I must say that there are many things about the other solutions that just plain wrong. Here is my step-by-step:

  1. Choose your RAM. Use the memory advisor from Crucial to tell you which ram to use: http://www.crucial.com/. I used their PC 5300 2*1GB kit. You can RAM from any retailer, as long as it is the same type recommended by the memory advisor.
  2. Lay the case flat and remove the screw in the middle of the top plate at the back, then slide the top plate off. You will probably have to break the warranty seal to do this.
  3. There are three black clips that hold the front bezel onto the top section. Prise them upwards and the bezel will come away.
  4. There is a black screw on the motherboard near the back, holding down a piece of metal attached to the top section (drive bays). Remove this screw, then pull gently on the plastic handle on the top section to loosen it.
  5. Lift the top section so that you can pull the power and IDE cables from the hard drive at the back, then lift it fully upwards. Be careful of the ribbon cable underneath, you may need someone to hold it up for you while you change the RAM.
  6. To remove the old RAM, do not simply prise it upwards as someone else said. The RAM slot has a metal clip at each side; push these outwards to the sides until they click. This releases the RAM so that they can be lifted out.
  7. Slide the new RAM into the bays and push it down to lock it into place. Make sure both sides click properly.
  8. Reassemble the case in reverse order, taking care to get everything stowed away in the right place. Take care remounting the front bezel to make it is properly in place before clicking the tabs back on top.
Hope someone finds this useful. By the way, while i can in there I noticed an empty expansion bay: anybody know what this is?

SOURCE: Acer aspire l100

This is THE single most common problem with the Acer Aspire L100. Initially really happy with it, but then after five months, mine started freezing and then refusing to boot. Since then it's been very tetchy so I just bought a new computer. The problem lies in the design, it's TOO small to allow adequate ventilation to all the components - something Acer should have figured out before selling the machine. If you can boot your machine up to bios, go into it and change the temperature settings so it runs the fan at full blast. This may help, but I cant garantee it, sorry! If your warranty is valid, demand a refund.

SOURCE: Over Heating Problem In Acer Aspire L100

There are two solutions to this problem. First set the fan in the PC Bios to rub at full speed all the time. This was too noisy for me.

Second, If you are running Windows Vista, you can adjust the Maximum Porcessor Utilization. From the Windows Control Panel select the Power Options icon. Then select "Change plan settings" for which ever power plan the PC is set to use. Then select "Change advanced power settings". Expand the "Processor power managment" by clicking on the "+" symbol. Finally click on the "+" for "Maximum processor state". I would try changing this setting to "90 %". This worked fine on my ACER L100 and it no longer overheats.

Graphic card for Acer aspire

One of the best ones is the ATi Mobility Radeon HD 3650. The best NVIDIA one there is the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT. But the ATi GPU is better.
You will probably need to get a new card fitted by Acer or a named specialist.

Graphics upgrade

As long as you have a open vga, vga e, or pci slot in your computer you should be able to install a new video card. the Acer website says your motherboard supports up two gigs of ram, I am not sure how much ram you are running but if it is under 1 gig I would consider upgrading that also. as far as a graphics card goes get one that has at least 512 mb of its own ram so it dosent pull from your system ram as I am sure your current on-board card is doing. Another couple of hints are: if you are running Windows Vista you they call for 1 gig ram for optimal performance, also it is very important that you un-install any graphics drivers before you install new ones, and when you install the new card read the instructions completely before you do anything.
hope this helps

Acer Aspire Mini PC

Hi, you will be able to purchase a mini ATX format board by almost any manufacturer that will fit the acer case, the only problem you may hve is the PCI and Graphics cards will need to be low profile standards but these are also available if you are not planning on gaming then the on board graphics on most new boards will do all you ask of them.
