Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC21 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
I have a Sony Handycam Model DCR-HC21 for one year. In the past, I have loaded the software package and have been able to download to the computer. Now, I get a message that the computer can not find the camera. I was told to visit the Sony website and was told download new drivers. I have done this ... but I still get the message that the computer can't find the camera. Also, I get a flashing camera with a line across it, in the digital screen display.. Any advice? Thanks, Art
Yes I did uninstall and reinstall the Sony programs, plus their updates on the Sony site.
I have heard of Irfanview and will check it out.
If it works for this I will post back and let you know.
Not sure how an editing program can help the computer recognize the camcorder though??
I own but have not installed Photoshop for pics and videos but I don't want to put it on this computer.
I was looking for a more user friendly, lower learning curve, editing program for videos and forgotten about Irfanview.
Thanks for reminding me!
If it works for this i will post back and let you know.

If you haven't found a solution.... did you uninstall & reinstall the software? It happened to me & my cd-rom doesn't work so I couldn't reinstall. SO I downloaded free PICASA & IRFANVIEW photo editing. When I plug in my camera, a Microsoft panel pops up & asks me how I want to open the file & what program to open it in. I usually just have photos, so I just copy the camera DCIM file & paste it into the Irfanview program & start editing. I've only had a few clips of video to do, but Irfanview also will open them & allow you to save them or send them or post to a website, etc.
