Light socket is dead on my Maytag

The cooktop light bulb(s) is(are) located on the underside of the microwave oven, and is(are) replaceable. Remove bulb cover screw, and open the bulb cover. Replace bulb, close bulb cover, and secure with screw. Cavity light: The cavity light bulb is located behind the vent grille at the top front of the microwave oven, under the bulb cover, and is replaceable. Remove 2 screws on the vent grille, tilt the grille forward, and lift it out. Open bulb cover and replace bulb. Close bulb cover, replace vent grille, and secure with screws.

By hood light I assume that the light you want to replace shines from the bottom of the unit, not the light inside the microwave. If so check out he Disassembly video on this site: Maytag Microwave Light Bulb Not Working

check to see if the power from the wall socket is there. Plug in a lamp or somthing. If it works, then the microwave burned out an internal fuse, or curcuit board.

Replacing the cavity light requires taking off the outer wrapper to access the bulb. Nothing easy or magical just an exercise in patience.

I would not use the lamps. Sounds like there is a shortage in the wiring for the lamps. They lamps should run together, and if one of the sockets have a short or burned wire it will not let it complete the circuit. This could be a fire hazard, so I would replace the whole microwave. It would be more trouble to tear it apart and find the exact problem than it's worth.

did the side with the hole have a clear or frosted cover? If so look up inside the hole to see if the socket may be pushed back up insde.
