Samsung Model HLN 617W61 DLP Projection . When I switch on TV noise coming from inside set. Sounds like cooling fan problems. Metallic sound sometimes goes away sometimes has a variable pitch.

The color wheel is the most common problem when it comes to noise from DLP's.
To determine if it is a color wheel or fan:
Turn on the set.
When the noise starts, turn off the set. If the noise goes away within 5 seconds, then the color wheel is bad. If the noise goes away after one to one and a half minutes after the set was shut off, then one of the fans are making the noise.

Hi, bearings in color wheel are about to fail, get it fixed now before the wheel shatters the prisms all over the inside of the tv which of course will then cost you more to fix, video-tek
On U_Tube, there is a video that shows the replacement proceedure. I understand it is quite good. My neighbor used it and it went in pretty easy. If you Google the model # it should be able to give you a link to it.

Hi, you have one of two problems, either the color wheel is going or one of the cooling fans are going, the color wheels are a very common problem in samsung dlp`s, sorry I can`t nail it to a specific part but I`d bet it`s the color wheel as they are notorious for failing in samsungs, video-tek
This high pitch noise comes from the color wheel. Now is unbalanced and the noise is going to be even hardest with the time. send it to change now. this part is inside the light engine
More than likely its the color wheel there is a bulletin from samsung indicating that a loud buzzing is often related to the color wheel.Let me know if you need to know where to get a color wheel and I will post a link, just include your full model number.
Sounds like the colorwheel (used in DLP projection sets with a single DLP panel) is going bad, either the wheel itself or the bearings on the motor driving the wheel are starting to fail. I would recommend getting a professional to service the TV set.
