Sony BM840 Dictaphone/Transcriber

The microcassette tape keeps coming off the spool intermittently. I think it needs to be serviced or cleaned. I cannot find a repair person except shipping it to another city, Los Angeles. I am in San Diego. I think this just needs some adjustment or cleaning but I don't know how to do it.

I have a Soney Transcriber BM-840. 'When I press the erase/rewinder buttons, the tape IS NOT erased. What am I doing wrong?

The sound is extremely scratchy and full of static. I know it is not the tape itself because when I listen to it on the VOR microcassette recorder it is fine. I have tried cleaning the heads with a Q-tip...

check the headset and or the headset connection.

Cleaning and demagnetizing recording head on microcassette transcriber machine

You no longer need to demagnetize heads they aren't the same inductive materials they used to be. To clean you just need alcohol and a cotton swab. Clean head and capstan roller and capstan.

Dictaphone intermittently shuts off while recording.

The power jack sometimes comes loose on this model. With the power on, wiggle the jack. If it powers off, then it needs to be resoldered. Service can be done by dictationmall if needed.

Hello,

This unit does not have erase. You can use a microcassette tape eraser which you slide the tape thru.

How do I erase tape on sony microcassett

Hold down the 'Erase' button and press the 'Rewind' button. It will erase the tapes as it rewinds.

Not sure if you're still having problems with this portable, but the first thing I would check is to make sure that you've put the batteries UNDER the battery clip in the battery compartment. Does the machine just make a 'beeping' noise when it tries to play, rew, or FF?
