Question about Admiral 26 cu. ft. Side-By-Side Refrigerator

2 Answers

Icemaker I have an Amana refrigerator model# HMG191450. The ice maker worked fine until I moved into my new house. Once I moved it stopped making enough ice and what it did make was often hollow. I have since replace the water-inlet valve and the ice maker itself and the results have not improved. The water flow to the ice maker is good but for some reason since I've moved here, the two or three ice slots (out of eight)closest to the door do not get water so they make no ice. The fridge is level and I moved within the same city so the water is the same. I have tried the freezer set at all the different temperature settings but the results are the same. I am completely perplexed and would appreciate any help.

I put a meter to the ice maker and got a 118.5 reading so it is good. I did not get the spitting you were talking about. The plastic screw broke when I turned it counter-clockwise. When I turned it clockwise it just raised the lever that tells you when the tray is full (it was already set as far clockwise as it would go). When I turned it counter-clockwise it turned a little and then the two plastic prongs broke off. I can't believe that is what they are made of. I was gentle with it and they still broke. No wonder everybody is sick of American products. Luckily I saved my old ice maker and swithced out the face plate (for lack of a better term). The water lines are clear. If I take the line off the back of the freezer, water will shoot out but it does seem like my problem is getting enough water and I am out of ideas. Thanks for your help. I'll take any other suggestions you might have.

Bruce I can see why you are perplexed, seems you covered all the basis. By your post, it sounds like you are loosing pressure somewhere. Take the cover off the ice maker module. You will see test points L

Test points L&V, will send 120 volts to the valve. See if you are spitting any air while testing the fill. On the right side of the module there is a small plastic adjusting screw. Clockwise will decrease the fill, counter clockwise will increase the fill. Try this first and post back...Catriver

Look for any pinched lines in back and obstructions in the fill tube itself.

Bruce, In the picture I sent you do you see the small plastic adjuster on the right hand side edge? right in the middle on the edge. This is the water adjustment screw. By your second post it sounds like you were turning the shut off lever. What I wanted you to do is take a jumper wire and jump L & V. Just like in the picture. I was not concerned about the proper voltage. This would send 120V directly to the water valve and water should be comming out of that fill spout as long as you are jumping L&V. This was to insure that there was no air in the lines. The minimun pressure to that fill valve should be 30 psi. in order for that valve to open and seat properly. You might have to put together a guage and check it. back.

My icemaker is not working... we had to disconnect the refrigerator to move it and the ice maker has not worked since we plugged it back in..

You may need to re-jump the ice-maker, with a jumper wire to get it to start, some ice-makers need this. You'll just get a piece of coated wire, with both ends twisted. There should be two holes by the ice-maker gear, stick both ends of the wire into each hole. This should re-start the ice-maker, leave it in, until the ice-maker gear starts moving by itself. You may or may not, need to hold the freezer door button in.

Freezer not making ice in Fridgidaire model PLH269ZDB2

There is a lever in the ice bin that detects when it is full. if that lever is locked in the"up" position, the maker stops making ice. Many times a previous owner or a shipper will turn off the icemaker this way. especially if the water to the home or freezer is turned off, so it won't keep trying to make ice.

11 year old amana bottom freezer icemaker drips water when filling tray

Hello dunc444444
You said, Bottom freezer works fine, but upper refrigerator has no cold air

Is your freezer so full that it is packed to the top especially in the rear?
Refrigerators and freezers share the air from the compressor and travel through vents in the rear of the freezer and fridge.
Sometimes it can effect the cooling in the fridge if the freezer articles block the vents!

The water overfilling in the ice maker is an ice maker problem only.
When we install an ice maker there is a short white plastic tube that we push through the rear
hole of the fridge which supply's the water to the maker, the outside water line attaches to this.
That tube we push through the fridge must go in till it stops. And empties in to a little sistran at the rear of the ice maker. Make sure it did not sip out or backwards a little when you may have moved
rolled the fridge out to clean under it!

Also you need periodically to remove the front grill down in front of the fridge and gently run a refrigerator brush under the coils to clean out the dust that may block air flow over the coils.(the coils are metal black tubes that run back and forth along the bottom of your fridge.
The vacuum will not reach in to that tight space. That's why they make a special brush for this chore.
Let me know how you do?

Freezer Problem

The only thing I can think of is your icemaker heater is staying on. When your icemaker goes into a harvest mode, (dumping ice and then re-filling with water) there is a "U" shaped heater (located on the under side of the icemaker) that comes on to release the frozen cubes from the icemaker mold. If this heater is continuously hot, it will cause temperatures in the freezer to rise.
