Code which reads C46TN has appeared in the middle of my TV screen. I believe that this is a servicing mode but I have no idea to get rid of it. I am sure that a combination of button pushes will exit it out but I have no idea what they are any help would be appreciated.

The wire u though,cause ur problems.It nothing,probally been there all the times.It just a basic extra grounding wire came lose or ur tv got it service before,the tech.just didn't connected back in.
The problems u describing,Ur tv have Convergence Problems,it dead.U know how solders?Must replaced 2 STK convergence ICS,and some or all it resistors.Tries Websites Tv repair World.com,Tvrepairkits.com to buy a convergence kit to repair it ur self.The shop will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.
I think your TV set combine projection and LCD technology, if you already replaced the lamp, that would have been first suspect on other projection models, It is likely to be LCD or polarizers burning out. This is common on LCD projection technology TVs, and cause colored spots forming on the screen.

If the set is still in warranty, call for warranty service. If not and you feel comfortable working on the set, carefully open up the back and reseat all of hte cables and connectors. This can be caused by marginal connections inside the set.
hi i have same prob iv bin told its a convergence chip an thay r £150 ! thay go bout evry 6 years an its comon .. any way there coming 2 fix mine 2day so ill let u know if it sorts it out my mail is [email protected] thanx
