SOURCE: I lost my key and need to replace the lock cylinder

I guess you should just replace everything. It would be the easiest way to go.

How to replace ignition tumbler and keys

The cylinder has to put in the crank position and then there is a button to depress to release the cylinder. Then you can replace the tumblers and springs and locking plate. Usually the dealer won't stock or sell you the tumblers. Ask the how much then call a locksmith and ask him how much. If you have never done this before you have to be VERY careful or you will never get it back together.

Ignition lock cylinder removal

Talking about pulling the air bag, removing the clock spring,
special tools for the lock plate, then it gets easy.

Disconnect the batt. for like 20 min to kill the air bag, remove the bag ,then the wheel,(with the puller you rented),the tool to remove the clip for the lock plate come next( also rented from Auto Zone or such like)
The tumbler is held in with a pin that unscrews ,then the cyl. just slides out.

01 malibu ignition switch will not turn/ are no details damn key will not turn

The lock tumblers inside the key lock cylinder have jamb up causing the key not to turn. Since the tumblers are made of brass they are no longer usable. As a retired locksmith I can tell you this is fairly a simple repair. The key cylinder is mounted on the dash which is the easiest removal on any car made after 1967. Go to any General Motors dealer and get a replacement part. The dash plate trim will need to come off to gain access to remove the lock

How do we replace the ignition lock on a 1990 ciera when the tumblers are damaged? can't turn it to remove normally?

Make sure the key itself is not worn.If it is good then you need a steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel and to get to the ignition cylinder. You also need a lock plate compressor tool to remove the lock ring on the lock plate. The turn signal switch has to be pulled out of the way to get to the bolt that holds the cylinder in the column.Once the cylinder is out you can have it repaired at a dealership. They have the tools for repairing ignition cylinders and you don`t have to get new keys.As long as it is not to worn out.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Ignition Lock cylinder set removal

Then you either got the wrong bolt, or the knob part is still in the hole. Take a close look at the bolt you took out, and see if something may have broken off it. If it did, you might be able to get the rest out with a magnet. There is a threadless part on the end of the bolt that's about an inch long. It goes down against the tumbler and hold it in there. The newer ones are a torx head, but i can't remember if 78 is or not.

Grand am ignition key cylinder stopped turning.

There are no wires to your key and tumbler. All the key does is pull a rod that is connected to the ignition switch, which is at the bottom of your steering column. I suppose if there is no "chip" on your key, and you can get the steering wheel to turn, you could pull on that rod to get it running.
