Hello uwood, The problem you have is related to the battery's nominal tension value. For the pda to light up the amber led dispaying that the battery is charging the tension value at the battery pins must be above 3.27Volts. If this is under that value the PDA's charging circuitry woun't power up and therefore the amber led woun't turn on. The battery you have bought is probably defective or not compatible with your pda model. If you are shure this is not the case or if the battery works with other pda's (if you have the possibility to check that), try a master reset at first and if this doesn't help try a firmware (ROM) update, you may find the ROM files on HP's site. For more informations please reply back.

Hp ipaq wont charge from usb cable. turns on for a few seconds nd loads but then turns off. it wont fully charge.

On the the IPAQ 6515 and others, there is a USB Power option that you must enable to 'slow' or 'fast' charge from USB connection.

HX4700 will not power up

Hi I'm a pc repair technician, and my ipaq hx4700 has gone exactly the same way. I've been looking round for some kind of technical manual to see if there is any history of internal components going down through heavy use or even manual abuse. Mine stopped after I knocked it whilst working on something. Normally if I see similar symptoms on a pc I'd be looking at internal component failure, more often than not the motherboard itself. I worked on that theory and have looked at prices for an ipaq motherboard. In all honesty the costs for the part and replacement are more than buying a new pda. Sorry for the bad news, but thats the only option I've found all the best

Cannot power on...

How to correct iPAQ 5450, 5455, 5550, 5555 battery charging problems / dead unit syndrome.

The iPAQ 54xx or 55xx will not power on if the batteries charge is lower than 3.2 Volts, if your battery charge falls below the 3.2 volts level your unit will not turn on, you need to plug the iPAQ into a cradle or AC charge adaptor. Note the charging light on the iPAQ will not flash at all (normally flashes orange) until the battery charge has reached a minimum charge level of 3.2 volts. You then need to perform a normal reset, then the unit should switch on normally.

HP Procedure is as follows:

To charge and reset the iPAQ Pocket PC h5400:

i) Connect the iPAQ Pocket PC h5400 to an A/C power supply.
ii) Charge the battery to the minimum level of 3.2 Volts. This will take 5 to 30 minutes depending on the current charge level.
iii) Perform a normal reset.
iv) Power on the iPAQ Pocket PC h5400

It is recommended that you keep the iPAQ Pocket PC connected to the Universal Cradle or Cable when it is not in use.
