I am using Adobe Audition 1.5 (old...I know) and am just getting started with a little voice over business. I purchased a audio tehcnica 2020usb to use as I had good experience with this as a xlr type mic in a standard studio. I have padded the walls and am still getting an echo in playback. is there any way to reduce the echo electronicly or do i need to move the mic into my closet or something.

Adobe's a company. They make products for print and web design. You can buy their stock at an exchange, and you can download their software via the internet; but many of their products (including educational products all about Adobe Audition) are not licensed free of cost. Some are though, so check out Adobe.com. Adobe Audition is used in editing and compositing audio, as if it were software for making an audition reel; so music videos might (and do) credit Adobe Audition with having helped out making professional-grade work. Audition can come bundled with Adobe's CS5 suite.

I assume that you know your way around adobe audition 1.5 because I'm currently using adobe audition 3 on windows 7. The menus are different, but I'm going to give a few points that might help.

Windows Sound/Volume:
Make sure that the sound card you are using is selected, specially if you are using an additional external USB sound card (which is much better). Disable other sound cards, if any.

Adobe Audition:
One of the pull down menus located on the upper part, it has an option that says "Device Properties" or anything like that. This is where you set the input signal will be coming from and likewise the output signal.

The input signal should be the input of the sound card you selected in windows. Same goes for the output signal.

On multi-track view, check the track to be recorded. Make sure that the input is from the input of the sound card and not from anything else. The button for the setting is somewhere near the Solo/Mute/Record buttons.

If this will be set correctly, you will be able to play the song on the 1st track and record ONLY your voice on the 2nd track.

Sorry to offer you this information... but THERE IS NO FREE SERIAL for Adobe Audition 3...!
Once you have purchased it you will get your UNIQUE serial that will fit that software.

But it's in your power to do a search on the Internet like "Adobe Audition 3 serial" and see what you will find out.... You'll never know!...

When you purchased the software, you should have received a serial-number.

Go back to the computer-store where you purchased the software,
bringing everything that you purchased from them,
and get them to show you the serial-number.

You can set the default mic that you want to use in start/controlpanel/sound and audio devices/voice

Change the voice recording selection to your digitel recorder

My best guess to start with is a reverb setting of some sort.
Are you recording in multitrack or edit view?  If one, try the other, and see if you get the same results.
Another guess would be a sound-card setting.  If you have any special effects setup on your soundcard (onboard, pci, pci-express, usb, etc), that could cause it.  Things such as 3d-surround settings, environmental settings, etc..
Also, what version of Windows?  What sound card/ audio interface?

Checkout your sound mixer setting in windows control panel (if you have windows) or in "Preference" or "Advance setting" tabe in adobe audition software
Check your connecting cables have appropriate jacks
