Question about Nikon Coolpix P1 Digital Camera

Computer will no longer recognize camera

I have had my Coolpix P1 since Dec. 1, 2006. I have been transfering pictures by connecting the camera to the computer with a USB cable. The PictureProject software automatically recognized the connection and would begin an instant transfer. As of two days ago, there is no longer an instant program that starts the transfer. When I click open the program and manually try to start the transfer, the message reads that there is no connection. Also, I just purchased a memory card (I've never used one before) and the camera says, "Warning: this card cannot be read". I think I have formatted the card according to the CoolPix manual. I live in Paris and my mother in law is coming for her first visit on Tuesday. I really need my camera to record her visit with the grandchildren. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

My computer recognizes that the camera is connected when I go to safely remove hardware, but the camera doesn't show in My Computer or Explore so I don't know how to access the pictures on my camera. I have been connecting the camera to the computer using the USB cable for an entire year now and this is the first time that something like this has happened. I never used the camera software CD. I have always just plugged the camera into the USB port on my computer.

Up to recently I was able to download photos from my Nixon D50 to my computer by just plugging in usb cable to camera but now it doesn't work any more. I may have deleted the software which recognised the usb cable in error as I was deleting several downloads I didn't need. Help

That doesn't work. I plug in an older camera and nothing happens at all. Autoplay doesn't start up. If you go to My Computer, the device does not show up. Therefore I can't get my pictures off my camera.

#1 Buy an SD USB card reader. Stick the SD card from the camera into Usb and the other side into the cpu. $10 ...problem solved.
#2 If camera isn't reading the card, u purchased an incompatible card most likely.

The thing to do here [and in general with every other camera as far as I am concerned] is to remove the supplied software. Put the disc back in the box and leave it there. Simply plug the camera in switch it on set it the the upload mode And Windows - bless it - will do the rest. Camera/Scanner wizard will come up and ask you what to do Just like that. Let Windows do the work.

Nikon Coolpix S52C camera transfer pictures problem.

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS TO COMPUTER
If your photos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

Windows XP will not recognize Cooxpix S710

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Nikon Transfer or Picasa.

Coolpix 4300 needs driver & update for vista

this solution was originally written by a fellow expert dauphine

You can download PictureProject software from this address: http://chsv-soft.nikon-image.com/jpn/software/win/S-P2____-175WU-JPNJP.exe

That is the only Nikon software that supports Vista since your camera is "outdated".

Here is a quote from Nikon site:

  • We had released a Windows Vista-compatible version of PictureProject, v1.7.5, for use with the models listed below, and all models that followed. PTP (models supporting the PTP protocol) and Mass storage USB transfer options can be used for camera connection. However, the camera's transfer button can not be used to transfer pictures over a PTP connection. Set the USB transfer option to Mass storage to enable the camera's transfer button.
Currently, the new Nikon Transfer and View NX will replace Picture Project as our new Image Transfer and Browser applications. These applications support the same Nikon products as Picture Project.

Computer will no longer recognize camera

Hey there pills 67, it appears the only thing that has changed is your memory card. The possibilities which follow are that the card is not formatted properly, and therefore not recognised as a valid drive, or it is not compatible with your camera. Many digital cameras cannot format larger size cards well and work better with 512 mb than 1.0 Gb. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
