My Samsung flat screen television isn't turning on. The red light flickers on and off before going off. There is no sound. This happened suddenly two days ago; then yesterday, for 15 minutes, the television worked. Other than pressing the source button to make sure the tv is on the right setting, do you have a suggestion as to how I can get the tv to turn on again?

Hi there, my husband fix the problem. My small son had changed the settings for the HDMI. My husband switched the tv to DVD mode started a dvd & changed all the settings back. After changing all the settings he also reboothed the setbox machine.
Sounds like you have an intermitant overdrive situation on the red CRT. This could be caused by a bad component on the Red CRT board, an intermittantly shorting CRT or the circuitry in the main board. You should not run it until the problem is resolved as you could damage the CRT if it is not already bad. This is something that unless you are a qualified tech you are not going to have any success resolving. It should not be very hard for a good tech to diagnose the problem. Costs will depend on the part which is bad. If it is the red CRT it probably is not worth fixing, but it could be a 50 cent capacitor. Certainly worth the cost of a service call. Good luck.
