The fax machine keeps freezing at random times. Everything else seems fine. I couldn't fix it but when I turn it off at the main switch, and turn it back on, it works again. However, over a few hours, the machine freezes again.

While receiving a fax you shouldnt pick up the handset, but if u pick accidently then u will not recieve fax and hence u will hear an engage tone. If you are using a single line for both tel and fax then the party who is sending the fax should pre-inform you that it is a fax call so that when it rings you dont pivk up the handset.
You can also check your line weather it is working properly by using a normal telephone. This should be the first step rather, make calls to confirm it.
The last option is Power off the tel/fax machine for 3min completely and then try again. Also make sure the tel/fax is in tel mode and not in fax mode. Try to assign it in both modes.
If still you are not clear then the mannual which comes along with should help you, If still you cannot figure it out, Then you can call your service provider for help, they should definetely help you out.
Take the line out of the fax and put it in a telephone,if u hear a dail tone its the fax and if not its the phone line!I am allmost sure there are fuses on the fax board that can be bridged!Good Luck!
The instruction manuals of fax machines are typically large and complex books. Often there are many options to consider. Mostly the machines can be used successfully without much reference to the manual but when there is a problem the question machine or operator fault can only be determined by thoroughly reading it.
To a large extent whether a fax call is picked up or not depends on the settings (including answering machine), the quality of the phone line and connection and the machine sending the fax as well as the receiving machine.
My fax machine will mostly automatically receive a fax but it seems to miss the important ones and I have to answer the ringing phone, hear the fax tone and press the manual fax button.
I strongly suspect the problem mostly lies with the sending machines - if they are fax machines the results were much better than from a computer being used as a fax machine and while a fax machine will send a receipt, a computer doesn't seem capable of doing so.
Hi Fatimo25,
The screen on your fax machine displays how the machine is set to receive calls. TEL MODE means the machine will not auto-answer incomming calls and will operate as a normal telephone device, it will still however be able to send a fax in this setting.
Place your message on the original tray and pick up the handset, dial the number and when the distant machine answers press the start key or ask for their fax machine and when you hear the high pitched fax tone press start.
There is a button on the panel that will allow you to change the reception mode of your machine to the other settings.
Your machine is of a model that doesn't come into this country so I have no manuals to forward you. You can try however to access the SHARP web site www.sharp.ae
Hope this helps you
regards
Gavin
Maybe the power supply of your fax is have a damage parts like capacitor .Because the capacitor stored power even you unplugged turn off the machine still working because of the stored power source it's still working but you need to replace this because it's already leaky and anytime it's going dead and you cannot use your printer anymore. Sent your printer to repair center to fixed the power supply problem.
First remove all paper from fax machine and unplug fax machine from the wall socket for 12 seconds then replug fax machine into wall socket replace paper and try printing
