I've got a d5100 system which has worked fine for 5 years. And still works ok on the main handset. But suddenly the slave handset won't work. Every time I try to use it, instead of a dialling tone, I get the engaged tone. I've tried de-registering and re-registering the slave handset, but no change. Anyone else with this problem? Even better, anyone else knows the solution?

It sounds like the handset is not 'registered' to the base station/cradle. Solution may be in the user handbook, which you should be able to download at :
