DVD Player/Burner not turning on

Well the subject just about says it all, my Lacie DVD Player/Burner is not turning on at all. I have it plugged into the wall and hooked up to the computer through USB. It used to work a few months ago but now it just dosn't turn on. I don't know what to do. Is there a way to open it up and see if there is any problems inside of the drive that may be prevening it from powering up? I hope I don't have to get a new drive. I don't think I am in warranty anymore. Thank you very much in advance for any help you may be able to provide. -Ken-

What is the exact model numbers? maybe the power supply went bad and you may be able to use the device internally.

My lacie dvd burner is not powering on, all plugs have been checked and recheck

When I had a similar problem, I noticed that the green LED on the separate power unit was flashing; on unplugging the cable to the LaCie unit, the LED remained on continuously. This suggested that the flashing LED was an overload warning. A quick check on the LaCie unit power input connector showed a short-circuit across the 12V input pins. Checking (very carefully) inside the unit revealed an antisurge diode P6KE15A connected directly across the 12V input. Replacing this diode cured the problem. Note that unsoldering this diode and replacing it is a delicate operation, as there are durface mount components close by.

I have lost my power cord to my LaCie DVD+RW Dual Layer....

Here is the PDF Users Manual for the LaCie DVD+RW 301230U
external optical drive,

http://www.lacie.com/download/manual/portable_dvd_sh_en.pdf

(Give it at least 10 seconds to download)
Should the direct link above not work for you, you can download the Users Manual from here,

http://www.generalmanual.com/Disc-Burners/LaCie-301230U-Portable-DVD-RW.htm

Go down to the bottom of the page, and under the green -> Download Now <- heading, click on -> User Manual
The reason I posted the link to the User Manual, is that you can use a USB to USB cable for power. You plug one end of the USB cable, into an available USB port on your computer, and the other end, into the LaCie DVD+RW external optical drive. (You need two available USB ports on your computer. One for power, and one to connect the LaCie external optical drive. This USB cable, is called an Interface cable)

The USB end, that goes into your computer, (Laptop or Desktop computer), is the USB A style end. (Male) This is what it looks like,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:USB_TypeA_Plug.JPG

The USB end, that plugs into the Lacie optical burner drive, is a USB Mini-B style end. (Male) It looks like this,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:USB_types_2.jpg
It is the second one from the left side.

Where I'm at, we have Walmart stores. At Walmart they sell a USB adapter kit, made by Philips. This kit has a USB A to USB A cable, that both ends are Male. This cable is on a little retractable reel. The reel is about the size of a USA fifty cent piece. In the kit are five different styles of USB adapter ends. They just plug on that USB A to USB A style cable. (On the small reel) One of those adapter ends is a Mini-B USB male end. It has a Female USB A socket on one side, and a Male USB MIni-B end, on the other side. The kit sells for about $12 dollars.

Should you find that somehow, this USB power cable does not give enough power to your LaCie external optical burner drive, then here is LaCie.com, Products, Support & Downloads, and the Power Supply, for your LaCie DVD+RW 301230U external optical drive,

No installation disc for lacie d2 dvd rw

You shouldn't need an installation disk, just burner software. May I suggest this free burner software? Infra Recorder. I used to use
Nero, but switched to Infra Recorder, and like it Much better!

1.Info about Infra Recorder on Wikipedia.org,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infra_Recorder
2.Infra Recorder homepage,
http://infrarecorder.org/
On this homepage you may want to go to the right, and click on
-> Screenshots, under the Pages heading.

If the Lacie D2 DVD-R/W burner drive is the only optical drive installed, Windows should 'see' it as new hardware. ("Found new
hardware" "Found Lacie D2 DVD-RW")

Be sure the 4-pin Molex power connector, is installed in this optical drive, also the interface cable, and the 4-pin audio cable.

LaCie DVD Burner Not Doing Much of Anything

You should check for corruption of your CD/DVD burning software from whereever you got it. Sometimes some burning software isn't good enough to work adequately. I'd test some new burning software to see if that is the problem, if upbrading your burning software doesn;t do the trick. You can downlowad free trials of Roxio, NTI, and other good burners to test this hypothesis. And, of course, try calling LaCie support.
