Hi .... I attempted to update my Zoom 5654 X5 modems firmware, because when i used programs which used a lot of bandwidth or possibily ports the internet use ground to a halt ....
I went to the tech support site found the firmware update and applied it . however instantly the DSL and USB lights started flashing
Technical support whos english seems limited have stated the firmware on the website was an older one than on the modem and that it is now "broken", as they put it, no instructions to repair said modem were given .. however as its now impossible to access the router at 10.0.0.2 .. i find it hard to disagree with them
does anyone have any ideas ?
Yes you are right. I agree with you. Real tech support really matters.
I would like to add information about what you did when you downloaded the firmware, there are certain firmware for its problem. One firmware is design to fix this particular problem . Are there firmware version and short description on the website? You might run accross one that fixes "saving problem on User interface" that might be the solution. But you are indeed on the right track. its just that the website of Zoom maybe is not that detailed and userfriendly.

Similar to you, F/W update corrupted my X5, despite having exactly followed printed instructions.
Had updated in an attempt to fix repeated router slowdowns and lockups.
Phoned Zoom (USA) Cust. Svc; they sent a return authorization to have it re-flashed with proper firmware. Lost the use of it for a week (borrowed a spare Cisco), but came back working as before. Still has slowdowns, etc.
I've updated F/W on many devices - the Zoom is the only outright failure I've experienced. Says something...
