I was trying to access my maxtor external drive on my windows xp as always but this time for some reason my pc failed to detect my maxtor. When i'd click on my maxtor desktop icon, it would always say "no maxtor found".. but i checked the connection over and over..it was connected and turned on properly. I noticed though that when i first plugged it in, there was a beeping sound that wasnt there previously. I also tried accessing my maxtor on other devices like my laptop but it still cannot be detected. what's wrong with it?..please help.

Follow what 'ImWireless' has suggested, but eventually you may have to remove the hard drive & install it into another housing or even into the pc as a slave or secondary drive. That way, you will know if it's a maxtor fault of a problem with your actual hard drive. Anyway, ImWireless appears to have the basic initial tests sorted.. Rgds,

- Do you hear any beep sound when you plug in the USB drive into the laptop? - You can also try a different USB cable - Try connecting the hard drive to a different computer and see if it works All those steps will help you determine where the issue is. Please revert back with any other observations. Good Luck

Would like to erase 150gb maxtor external drive and start over

Connect the drive.
Open "My Computer".
Right-mouse click on the icon for the Maxtor.
Click FORMAT.
Choose Quick-Format.
When it completes (in a few seconds), all the files on the disk will be "gone",
because a "blank" Table-Of-Contents has replaced the previous Table-Of-Contents.

Hi there i hav ea maxtor onetouch 4 mini 120 gb.

Remove the hard drive from the Maxtor case, purchase an USB hard drive adapter case, and install the hard drive inside this case. Then you can connect this to the computer's USB port and if the hard drive is OK then this computer will detect it as an external USB hard drive, then you can open the folders and files and back them up.

Maxtor one Touch 300GB no steady green light

Hi,

The USB Isn,t supplying/providing enough Power to the device.
Search e-bay or similar for a 2 into 1 USB Cable.
Then power the unit with 2 USB Ports on the Computer.
2 x USB Into 2 x Sockets On P.C. 1 x Into Device Drive.
This will be enough power to operate the Device Correctly.

I,ve done this on several external Drives, never failed for Me.

Maxtor OneTouch II 300Gb can't recover data after a system restore

Hi,

I had the same problem a few weeks ago.

The way I solved my problem was to make sure when I restored Windows to the default settings that I did it up to the same support packs and hot fixes then when backing up the system with the Maxtor HD. It took me many days to figure this out... was written it the Maxtor HD documentation and it works fine.

Hope this helps.
