Question about Hitachi 53UDX10B 53" Rear Projection Television

Black screen 53in Hitachi 53UDX10B

My tv just went all black today no problems leading up to it. It is 7 years old - I wonder the probability of it being worth fixing vs buying a plasma.

I brought out a tv repair guy, it was an open resister which he fixed for 110, ok for now although the colors aren't what they used to be - probably just bought myself time.

At seven years old, thats a toss up, because most likely you will be nickle and diming the set from here on in. In my opinion, get a new set. Good Luck

I would consider getting a quote for repair. Sometimes it is something simple, other times it is more expensive to fix rather than buy a new one. I say get a quote, because in the long run a qualified repair shop can figure out what what needs to be replaced, rather than spending money on parts and hoping you found the broken component. If you can get your hands on a model that has a cracked screen, for example, it may be worth it to try to swap parts.

The equivalent Samsung model today costs $380.

We have a Samsung PS50Q91HDX Plasma Tv which is not quite 3yrs old. Ever since we have had it, it turns itself on & off at random but this is not the main problem. Last night we were watching a show...

This is weird. I also have a plasma 50" model PS5Q91HDX and on the 5/02/11 the screen went blank when my friends daughter was watching a Wiggles DVD. The image kept coming back, flashing a scene or two before going black again. But the sound is perfect.

I wonder what is going on? Is anyone else having trouble with their 3-4 year old Samsung 50" TVs???

Mitsubishi VS 360RA TV tuner

I've got one of those, too. Tuner's been out since 1997 from lightning storm. Tuner was not available then, not available now. It's an ancient beast-- you won't find parts for it--not worth $20, anyway.

We have a 50" projection tv. it was manufactured in 1995. tonight we were watching it and it went black. the on/off button was flashing red. is it worth getting repaired

I won't pay more that $50 to fix a 15 years old projection tv, and no body will go to check it for less that $120 just to see it.
Did you try to unplug the power for a few seconds.

I have a 9 year old mitsubishi projection tv

Could be a problem in the high voltage section or a bad signal board. Let the TV tech do it.

Good luck

PANASONIC 36" TAU --- NEED HELP

Sounds terminal. Companies build things with "planned obsolescence" in mind. In other words. You buy a TV today, and the warranty says it's good for 4 years. 4 years and 3 months later, it dies.

I hope someone else can help you.
Good Luck!

TV has sound but no picture

Everything is worth fixing provided the price is right.  However, in this case it's probably not cost effective to repair the unit.  Start with the easier fixes, such as bulbs, etc.  Even then, some of the components can be quite expensive, or simply unavailable.  I would suggest getting a quote from a local repair shop in order to make an informed decision before you get to far into it.  You could end up spending just as much to repair it as you would on a new unit.
